2.2 6cyl 24 valve 170bhp top 140mph 155 torque
2.5 6cyl 24 valve 177bhp top 142mph 170 torqe

I'm looking for a z4 had originally decided on a 2.5 or 3, but after further looking the 2.2 really isn't that worse off in "stats" so to speak.
Can anyone advise if I should hold out for a 2.5 or is the 2.2 nearly just as good.
thanks

I have the 2.2, tax wise is doesnt make a damn sight of difference, neither will performance unless you go from the 2.2 to the 3.0... insurance wise though... it makes a huge difference.

early 2.5s are 197 :)

Yup, and with a remap you will go up to 211 I think, same as a boxster. If I am not mistaking, the 2,5 engines are a little more modern as well? 2.2 was not produced that long. Tax-wise (in Belgium) there is no or little difference.

I had the 2,5 and now have the 2,2. I would go for the 2,5: little more power, more modern engine and the pops and bangs in the exhaust are louder when mounting a sport muffler...

prefacelift 2.5 was 197 break- when they dropped the 2.2 and facelifted the z the 2.5 became what the 2.2 used to be- lower powered 6 cyl. That said Ive had mine for 6 years and have never 'struggled' to keep pace. The 2.2 is a great 6 cyl engine and I love mine- but theres little in way of price between the 2.22 and 3l now so buy the best car you can afford regardless of engine size- buy on condition and toys rather than pure bhp IMHO as this will net you a much better car.

both the 2.2 and pre facelift 2.5 are M54 engines along with the 3.0 so there reliability will be pretty much the same.

Don't be fooled by the on paper differences. Each engine is a step up from its smaller brother and does make a difference. A-B will all do it in about the same time but in very different ways.

Dont forget that the larger engine models are better equipped too, not only from factory but generally had more lavished on them. 3.0 have sport suspension for instance.

Consider insurance and fuel economy, but IMHO buy the biggest engine for the small premium.

192bhp :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!:

just 192 indeed. and engine is the smaller brother of the 3.0. both are M54, based on the E36 M3 engine. they are quite bullet proof itself. only small things to check (like disa valve ??).
