2.0i flat spots

Hi there all, this is my first post so my apologies if there is already a thread running with this topic. I searched but could not find one.

I have a 58 plate 2.0i sport, yes perhaps I should have opted for the 2.5 or greater but fuel economy was first and foremost with the amount of miles that I do. I have noticed recently that I am getting acceleration flat spots where it just seems to lack between the 3500-4500 rev range. This does not happen all of the time but it is becoming both annoying and at times a little dangerous. It didn't do it when I bought it, albeit I wasn't ragging the ar*e off it until I'd run it in but I need it sorted.

I am going to take it to the dealer but I am sure I will get the usual 'no faults found' answer so I was wondering whether anyone had come across something similar.

I would also be interested in hearing about any ECU chips that people have found for the 2.0 and what they thought about them.

Any ideas anyone...?

I have a 2.0i, and while I'm not sure about flat spots, I did expect a greater level of responsiveness than I have had. I too would be interested to know about re-map potential.
 
I also have a 2.0. Havent had any flat spots.
As far as remap, chips etc. according to the local BMW owners club, the best one is by superchips.

According to their writings they say for a 10 hp increase.
No personal experience though.
 
i have noticed the flat spot thing when it's cold, almost as if it feels as if it's being held back. Seems fine once warm mind.

experienced something similar when I first got my 3.0, but i followed the instructions on the thread about remapping throttle response seemed to clear it. Have you tried that??

I have not tried remapping the throttle response, how do I do that?

Those 108's on your car look in good condition, wish mine were!
 
When cold i find the 2.0l sometimes is jumpy other then that for a 2.0l its really nice and smooth. I find you have to really get up the rev range to get the most out of it but it pulls well in all gears. It doesnt seem as quick as my 4age mk1 mr2 but on paper it is. Its a different drive as my mk1 loves to be revved where as the Z4 is a cruiser untill you get about 4.5k rpm.
 
Hi, finally found the procedure again:

If you have different people driving your car, or have been doing a lot of town driving, this can help to reset the throttle responsiveness back to factory defaults.

Turn ignition off
Turn key to "on" position
Wait 15 seconds
Turn ignition off
Wait another 15 seconds

Start the car.... you should find the responsiveness has been reset.

My 108's may look good cause they just been refurbed........ badly! See my post in buy and sell for further info on that.

Thanks BigChewy71 :thumbsup: I will certainly try that and see how it goes.

I am still contemplating the possibility of an ECU upgrade but cant's bring myself to part with £300+ for 10BHP and about 18NM torque increase. I appreciate all of the suggestions though
