1M faster around Hockenheim than an M3!

Impressive indeed, I was also shocked that the TT RS was about a second slower.

Are they going to do a convertible version of it as that would be very tempting
 
Apparently the circuit has a lot to do with it, give it a few more places where the M3 can open up and the V8 would take it. However there is no denying the pace of the 1M, it is after all lighter and smaller. On paper, very E46 M3 in fact (335BHP, 0-60 5.0 secs, £40k). Great car....

Nope.

1M is supposed to be the back to basics sporty coupe, the convertible doesn't fit. Only 450 Coupes for the UK so they will be a rare sight, only two in the UK so far seem to be at BMW HQ Bracknell - a white one and an orange one.

Yep, it seemed strange to me they quote it for Hockenheim when just the 'Ring is the circuit of choice for most comparisons. I guess we can conclude from this than an E92 M3 woud still kick the arse of a 1M around the Nurburgring then!

Still, the 1M sounds like it could be a great little car. Still unsure on it being turbo and not n/a though...
 
Next M3 will be a turbocharged 6, and the next M5 is not only a V8TT but is going to be offered with AWD as an option! (partly to complete with the RS6, partly because a two ton RWD 600HP car might be a bit of a handful for some potential customers)

Times they are a changing.....
