18" Alloys or not?

Hi, new to the forum, and Z4 ownership. My 03 2.5i has 16" alloys at the moment, and I need to change them at least in the spring. I really like the look of the 18" elipsoids, but want to ask what difference to ride the bigger alloy might make to the Zed. The ride right now is very smooth and positive, but would bigger rims mean too harder ride? Be grateful for your experiences. Cheers

I have a similar 2.5i like yours that came with original 17" alloys and diabolical Bridgestone RFTs. I changed to 18" MV3s shod with regular Avon ZZ5 tyres and it transformed the car. No tramlining, quieter, more grip, better handling and ride quality. Absolutely NO regrets.

That's reassuring, as I do get some tramlining and mine albeit 16" are Bridgestone RFT too. Thanks for your comments.

The change from runflats to non runflats will be bigger than going to 18's.
18's suit the car and the ellipsoid is a trademark for the Z4, certainly a good choice.

Number5 may have a set of Elipsiods just refurbed for sale if you PM him.....

Hey, thanks everyone. Going to change em to 18" with non rf tyres too. But, it'll have to be in the spring cos I can't afford it yet. Its my main want/thing cosmetically, and after hearing how it can stop tramlining and improve handling by changing to non rf, which my worn rf are doing, its defo going to happen. February is spring isn't it? Cheers

Never really appreciated mv3's on the e9x chassis, but they suit the e85 so well!

Thanks for the nice comments about my black MV3s. I like their unfussy, smart looks and was going to get some refinished in graphite grey until my wife said "Grey car, grey hardtop AND grey wheels ? That's too much grey ! What about black ?" I found these already refurbished and powder-coated in gloss black and had to have them ! I think they look great against the Sterling Grey paintwork and a little bit different too.
