Hi Folks - i apologize if this has been covered before, but looking for where I can find the latest firmware to upgrade my system? It's not supported by connecteddrive (it's a 2015 z4) - and BMW doesn't seem to offer any downloadable files anymore. Does anyone have a link or know a place to find those files? I'm familiar with the process of updating with USB, etc. Thanks so much everyone.

There was the last map update a few years ago. Is that what you’re looking for ?

Maps & some minor feature addons were available using teh connected drive shop - but if you are talking about 'software update' as in the vehicle software - that was something you needed to do using a dealer level computer system / connection to the mothership.

ISTA can do it (if you have the update files). If you don't know what ISTA is then that route is likely not one for you!

It was a never a nice easy DIY job.

TBH, other than a fix to the way the electronic parking brake worked on early cars, there isn't much you will see by doing an update.

There are different types of "update" that can be done to our cars, all very much dependent on what options you have fitted and whether you're encountering any faults.

So here goes....

User updates....
Map updates - For Premium, West and East Europe 2025-2 is the last map. Not sure on latest North American version (2023 I think).
Media update - This is the one where you used to put your VIN into the box on the BMW site and it told you if there was an update. This has since been withdrawn for our E89's. BUT I have it available (perfectly legitimate as it was a free update, and perfectly safe and easy to perform). This does media and Bluetooth.

Technician updates....
This is for the iLevel of certain modules within the cars infrastructure. This isn't a recommended job to be done "just because", as unless there is an issue that is causing a problem then it's easy enough to just leave it alone. The old saying of "if it aint broke, then don't fix it" certainly applies here. It's an expensive update to be done by a dealer or even a BMW expert garage. Even if you tried this one yourself you really need to know whet you are doing and have the correct equipment to perform this.

FWiW I doubt very much that there was any firmware updates at all post 2015..the car was functionally stabilised..ie dead..
