The ventilation will run the fans, but without the engine running to generate warmth, they will only move cold air around.
Some models do in fact have an extra electric heater so you can ventilate with warm air.
So at least then you can sit in a warm car while you wait for the AA to bring you a new battery.

& i have the bmw app installed but this only lets me remotely lock unlock, flash lights which I presume is for if you can't find car in large car park, & set ventilation timer so on a hot day i get fan to cool interior before i get in car .... or i could just roll down the roof

My bmw app says software 07/2021.50 is ready to download, anyone had any probs after downloading such as their android phone worked ok before but now it doesnt?

Yes, but from my experience it still defrosts the windscreen! Not like a heated car, but it does get rid of the ice. Not sure how it would handle a snow day, but mild ice it helped!
The manuals aren't that good in my opinion. They assume a certain level of knowledge that everyone does not necessarily have.
The Sat Nav screen on the 335 (Same system) displayed a blue/ grey hue and I struggled to get it back to its normal colours - I'm blaming my wife for fiddling with the system. The manual was as much use as an ash tray on a motor bike!
