12 point 'star' bit

Resurection...Pablo, (or anyone)

Im looking for another one of these as the star bit i have has slightly rounded.I don't want to get stranded half way through a wheel refurb without one.

You say theres a snapon uk to order from but all I can find is the US version. :headbang:

Found it...

I have access to a Sears in the UK.

American Air bases have a PX. Mildenhall have 2 aisles of Craftsman tools (lifetime and all that jazz). Before this I shipped all my Craftsman stuff in luggage. Good brand - great price.

I have the star point tools as a set of handles rather than 3/8ths drive heads.

I'm in Huntingdon f you want a shorter journey.

I purchased a complete set of stardrives for a few ££'s Came with long and short sets and an adaptor for a 3/8" drive. They can as easily be fitted to a power driver to pull the bolts out fast.

Also purchsed a specialist car wheel alloy buffing kit with polishes, mops, etc. that fits onot a bench drill, portable, flexible drive etc. Really helpful company put together exactly what I needed to buff the outer polished lip to a high gloss and some tips about not lacquering them. :)

Taking me less than 90 minutes a rim to do - yes really and they look perfect !!!

Can find a links if needed by others??

For those interested I'll write a quick guide, although there are already some great write-ups.

OK so some links:

First the alloy polishing. I actually found them on ebay but here is the direct link:
http://www.merlinabrasives.com/

I called told them what I was doing and they assembled me a bespoke kit for polishing the convex outer lip of the rims. It consisted of a variety of mops, pads, vienna lime and polish block, that could be used in my case on a flexible drive from a bench drill. They could ave done it for dremmel, power drill etc. Comes with instructions and their help. Cost me about £15

The spline drives:
mmm - need to find the invoice so will edit and post the link later today

Websites with sounds .. yuck :x

Looks interesting though as a product, may have a look at that in more detail. Any of the mops good for the washing part between the caliper and the wheel itself where normal brushes don't fit?

I would not advocate the website as a good example and in fact saw an item on ebay, sent a message then ended up in conversation with I assume the owner's Mrs. Very helpful. Truth is you can call them tell them what you want and they'll make up a kit to suit. Mine does have some 1" mops and some tiny bits the size of a 5p so it woudl do your task.

Well what a waste of time...

I bought http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/item.asp?P65=&tool=all&item_ID=14203&group_ID=2198&store=uk&dir=catalog and its too big. :headbang: I thought this was the correct size?? They don't have any other sizes on the website and im sure someone said they ordered one from there before.
I have one already but its a little worn and I don't want to get half way through stripping a wheel and be caught without a spare if it dies.

Shame to have the wrong one.

I just got this kit:http://www.toolmix.com/browse/product.asp?pid=72240&s52cnc=KELKOO-UK&s52r=KELKOOSHOPPING#

Come with 2 of each size so you can have one on a socket to break the odd tight bolt and one in some sort of power driver to spin them out :)

Mine are all polished and as it happens by chance got prices for a dark chrome powder coat finish for the stars so just considering it.

i have also ordered that set, however after 5 days its still not turned up even though it states a 1-2 day despatch time. Hoping it turns up soon and you have better luck with ordering yours !

Got mine, for some reason the postcode was wrong..enjoy stripping the rims !
