108's Full Refurb or Replace?

Hi,

I have 108's on my E85 that need a full refurb due to corrosion, they had a cheap 'paint' when I bought the car 10 months ago, rear tyres need replacing so I went to a local wheel refurb shop and was quoted nearly £1000 for a full refurb (£500) and tyres (£400) plus caliper paint (£100).

So do I....

Refurbish the wheels as I like the design along with new tyres... but does the above quote seem expensive

Or

Replace with some 19" CSL Reps.....

I suppose it depends what wheels you actually prefer - but if you do want to keep the 108s I'd be looking for a more competitive quote for the refurb! £500 seems awfully expensive to me. :o

CSL reps also come as 18s - it's just the genuine CSLs that are 19s!

I'd go 224! :evil:

Put rubber on the new wheels and sell 108 with existing tyres. :driving:

108's do look good IMO but will need a refurb again in a couple of years or so. So bare that in mind.

My 108s had been refurbed 4/5 years ago and were still in decent condition. So when I found a set of 295s last year I bought them and sold my 108s before they got tired!

Really pleased with them, especially with the E89 offsets - no need for spacers. :laugh:

I had thought about 224s, but thought on a 3.0Si they might look a bit "wannabe", and much as I like CSLs so many people have already done that!
 
Thanks for the advice, it sounds like the best idea will be to trawl the forum to see what the various options look like when fitted and go with my preference.

If I stick with 108's does anyone have any recommendations for wheel refurbishment for South London / North Kent area?

I like the offsets of the 224’s... no spacers like you might have to with 108’s. Also they’re a Z4M wheel so will retain value.

Have you heard of first aid wheels? Recon that’s a good option if your hearts set on the 108’s. They work on an exchange basis normally so minimal headache.

Have just used First Aid Wheels, they are excellent. Bare in mind they charge extra for tyre disposal, buckled wheels (100% of used wheels will be in the uk) and corrosion. Still worth the extra as the finish is excellent as is their customer service.
