Noticed I was heading in this general direction a few weeks ago, so I’ve been thinking what I can write for my colossal 10,000th post.

Bizarrely I feel a relative newbie as when I joined the forum aged 37 on March 29th 2010 it was already a few years old, and over the 13 years or so since registering as inkey$ (a hint to my childhood Sinclair addiction), I’ve been active and non-active across the eight Z cars I’ve owned, five being Z4’s and of them, two being ///M flavour both coupe and roadster. The only E85/86 Z4 I’ve not owned is an Alpina; a financial boat I think I’ve now missed.

In 2010, my first Z4 was a then five year old 2005 3.0SE roadster in Sterling Grey. Bought for £11.5k and enjoyed until the lure of the ///M Coupe appeared a couple of years later.

In my time on here, I’ve owned other cars too between Zs - a short lived VW Scirocco (3 weeks), an E30 325i convertible and a Mk3 MX5, but I’ve always come back to the straight-six of BMW, and I guess during my time with these cars, have come to learn a lot about them; knowledge gained pretty much all via this forum.

Am pleased to say I’ve met a few people from here in person too, mainly between 2010-2013 when I had more time and wasn’t on dad duties, but there are a few that I’m still in contact with and consider friends. Plus more than a few I only know on here, seem to get on with quite well and would like to meet one day.

All of this says a lot about the Z4-forum. It has of course changed over the years, but its never felt exclusive or got keyboard-warrior-angry - and I’m not really counting the days of El Taco - although he was quite funny. (if you want a laugh, search out his posts).

I’m now 50 with two young children and somehow still have a ‘fun’ car in the garage (I can probably thank the money I made on my Z3M Coupe for that!). Hopefully I’ve added to the place. A few ham fisted how-to’s, suggestions on bike racks for your Z, etc. I even created the Z4 tax disc holder design (remember them?) and in 2012 a real life Z4 calendar, which I will never do again as it was a logistical nightmare when it came to orders

This is a great forum, a great time suck, and as PVR will no doubt attest, a great place to go between Zoom calls. So much more to offer than other forums I’ve been part of, and long may it continue.

P.S. Mods: Thanks for all your hard work and dedication to this place. If you could just change the way the search function works where you have to wait e.g. 8 seconds to see the next page of results, that would be great

As someone a year younger, I've always wondered if your handle harked back to the hayday of home computers!

Cheers all
Yes, smorris_12, 80's geek-guilty as charged. Went arcade with my profile pic though, just to reinforce the point

Great post [ref]inkey$[/ref]. Although I now have very high expectations for your 20,000th!
Have a feeling its going to take longer than 13 years for me to reach 20k and Legend status!
