04 Carrera 4s vs 35is

I thought the pork would have me yearning to swap but bloody hell no way. Had a good drive in one yesterday and ok it's an 04 but only 50k on it and it was pretty awful, I don't know if it was just this one but the brakes we're horrible, spongy yet stiff pedal with zero feel and no bite, felt like an old VW. The springs we're rock hard, stupidly hard with zero compliance, bouncing around like an old lowered XR3i, very crashy and un-controlled, no damping that even progressive springs give. It was a lot stiffer than the zed on sport setting and 19's. Rattley creaking cabin. Long throw shift and blunted performance, felt very lethargic until over 4K. The steering, as ever with the porsche's I've tried, was superb, direct and sharp, however I was fairly glad to get out of the thing, not a patch on the same year Boxster I had moons ago.

I'm happy to knock the 35is for it's shortcomings as you pay a cart load for them but if the Carrera is pretty much the same now, no thanks, although I can't think it can be surely?

...however the Boxster...

Anyhoo just a ramble but it shocked me how bad it was, was'nt expecting that. If anyone's tried one post your thoughts and disagree but the zed knocks it cold apart from the steering.

I guess it's partly down to the 10 year age gap, things have really moved on particularly with suspension and brakes so that even some pretty mundane cars feel good these days. Steering is another thing though, electric systems always feel a bit 'artificial'.

Agree with this sentiment ,I drove same car and vintage and was underwhelmed ,especially considering what the dealer was asking . I was expecting a wow factor but didn't happen . To be fair I got much the same impression when driving a couple of 986 Boxster S at the same time . Maybe they weren't the best examples although they all did a decent seri e history .
Still hanker after the Porsche ,can't explain why ,but the potential, repair bills with the older ones have always scared me into making a sensible call .
