03 E85 Roof goes down but not up

Hi Guys,
I've searched the forum a lot, but can quite find one with these symptoms
Picked up a 03 E85 2.5L with 83k at the weekend.

The motor had been replaced and relocated to the boot by the previous owner all was working fine for about 5 days up and down with no issues.

I came to raise the roof this morning, and the windows drop, The motor sounds like it's working, but the roof doesn't move. Red flashing light next to the button.

If I give the roof a little assistance it comes up and locks into place.

It goes down perfectly fine, and maybe every 1 in 5 times to get it to come up it will come up.
Can anybody give me some ideas to go look at?

Also, see attached obligatory 1st post pic.

Cheers!

Since its now in the boot, check the fluid level and top up if low, also check that the manual red ring is in the correct position and the brass valve on the pump is not stuck in, if it is then lube it and push it in and out till it works freely.

Cheers for the quick response,

what should the fluid level be at? from looking at it, the top bit is about 1/4 the way full of fluid? does this sound low?
I couldn't see a fill level line?

Thanks for your help.

It lays at a greater angle in the boot, and the normal 'max' amount can still leave a port partially uncovered. Sounds like yours is sucking air in.
Lift the pump into the vertical position (should have enough on the pipes to allow that), take the fill screw out of the top and use a syringe to add jack oil until it spills over. I think I added about an extra 30ml to mine after exactly the same problem. Put it back in it's normal living place and try again.

Thank you! Just did this, and it has definitely helped it now pops up by itself and closes, very slowly though compared to before the fualt.

Lube all the hinges of the roof you can see.

If there's air in it then it may take five or six operations to self bleed.
You may also need to top it up again once the air is expelled.

Cheers for the offer, if I get no improvement or come to a dead-end I might just take you up on that offer!
After work, I'll go out and lower/raise it a few times and check the levels, etc.

No probs. Not about tonight, wifey's birthday, but any other time, give me a shout.
