Z4 03" 3.0i Bluetooth and iPhone 4 - can't hear voices!

I have a variant on this problem... I can make calls from my iPhone 4s and everything is peachy, however when I receive a call and then swipe to answer they can hear me but I can't hear them. I know the phone is paired and connected to the BT unit so I am confused.

I've got this with my 4S also. I think it's not selecting the Bluetooth as the audio source.

If you answer using the steering wheel control does it make a difference ? There does not seem to be a way of selecting the audio source when receiving a call. Need to use SWMBO to do some test calls tomorrow. I shall report back

I swipe the phone but will try the wheel button. I'm sure it's the audio source as it rang when I was stationary and picked up the phone to find the audio was coming from the phone speaker

I am hoping that using the button 'forces' the Bluetooth to recognise the car as the source/destination - there are not many settings options for the Bluetooth on the phone itself, which is weird, and none of them help.

Of course you could argue that given there is a button on the steering wheel then we should be using that anyway, not concentrating on swiping the feckin' phone :D

Right, as promised I did some experimenting this morning... And have the answers :D

Firstly, when someone calls you there are three options :

1. Use the button on the steering wheel if you have it
2. Swipe to answer
3. Choose whether to answer the call or hang up

Using the button is easiest - it routes the call through the car automatically so you can hear the call, and the phone throws up the option to choose the audio source on the screen. Handy if you want to get out the car whilst continuing the call.

Swiping to answer routes the call through the phone, but you are then presented with this screen :

Now, we're driving here so not paying total attention to the phone (one assumes...), but as you can see there is an option to choose the source at the top right. Touch this, then select the car from the list. Not ideal as you need to spend quite a lot of time looking at the phone.

The last option is not really practical when driving - in the photo below you see a wee phone to the right of the swipe bar. If you swipe this button up, like using the camera when the screen is locked, you get options to answer the call or not. It is quite hard to swipe this in a cradle when stationary without looking at it while you do it, so I will not be trying it while driving. If you answer the call you then need to select the audio source as above.

So, using the button works best - I don't think that you can have BT integration without the controls, but if you can then just swipe and select source. Not a great option though, as proven by the fact that none of us saw the button to select the source when we were using it whilst driving.

Sorted my email synching between devices as well this morning after a little googling - maybe I should go fit my Intravee while I am on a Tech Fix Roll :D

Interesting post, Bing - I have always used the phone button on the steering wheel, never swiped the phone to answer calls when in the car. Now, don't think I will bother anyway :D

Yup - no idea why I felt the need to swipe the phone rather than use the button anyway

If you want to reject a call double press the power button on top of the phone. First press mutes the ringer, second hangs up and diverts to voicemail

Or just ignore and let go to voicemail... Then it's not obvious you are dumping the call. I hate it when people do that to me
