Hello all, I have just ordered a new sdrive 2.0, I am chopping in my e93 330d convert and dont want to do without some the useful add on's so I have gone for heated seats, park distance alarms sport 8speed auto box oh and the free M sport upgrade with deleted m sport suspention, as most of my driving is on rough country lanes. Have I done right? will it make the car look to high?
Does anyone know if auto head lights are standard the dealers don't know! I am a bit concerned that it will seem flat after my 330D buut the dealer assures me it wont! I can change any of the spec in the next week so any thing I have missed?
Cant wait till June when it will be mine!

Anthony

Hi Anthony

Ive just joined the ranks of Z4 ownership with a 2.0i S Drive having traded in an e92 330d coupe and dont think you'll regret it.

Personally I think the non M sport package is the right way to go particularly if you have 18 or 19s on the car. Having just endured March in the Peak District I did miss the heated seats (big mistake) but other than that I'm really pleased - Auto lights are standard or at least they were fitted to mine and not on the list of extras.

Lastly will you miss the performance. To be honest you dont have the same low down grunt ( but to be fair not much does) so the car doesnt feel quite as fast but in reality they'll be little diffrence against the clock. Mid range is where you will notice the difference.

If performance is the absolute priority the 28iS would be your answer. For me the 2.0iS has enough (must be getting old!)

13MY comes with auto lights and LED daytime runners. I ordered mine back in January and hopefully I'll take delivery of it next week. The only options I ordered (beside the freee M Sport upgrade) were the 19" 326s, heated seats and wind deflector. I'm not sure I will need the wind deflector but the dealer convinced me it would be more expensive to fit retrospectively.

I know it's a lot of dosh but the satnav/idrive is great. Not just for the satnav, but also for the information system music, telephone, etc.

Personally I like the Msport suspension, having owned e89's with and without. It just looks and feels right for the zed.

Hi and welcome to the forum  Not sure what the full spec options are but wold also consider:

PDC - front a rear
Folding door mirrors and auto dim dim (may come in one of the packages)
Xenon headlights
Cruise Control

Best to go on the BMW website - Build Your Own BMW and spec it from there =- all your questions will be answered!

Maybe think about the idrive as others have said. The pdc works well with the picture, the sat nav is fairly decent and it provides something to do in the traffic. It is ridiculously expensive though.

Auto headlights do come standard and are good. I am always amazed how little the dealers know about the optional extras and what is standard. how hard can it be when that is your day job.

We also got DAB radio but that might or should be standard now.

The through loading thingy we have for golf purposes only. Haven't tried it yet due to being fair weather golfers.

As there are 2 of us using the car regularly, we went for electric memory seats and mirrors - which I really like - but if only 1 driver then don't bother.

It turned out cheaper for us to get the comfort package which included some extra lighting - only a nice to have and not really necessary.

Edit - also got the wind deflector - not sure if it makes a huge difference but apparently it does. Not had the chance to test it properly.

We have the 2.0 auto you'll get abuse from the bigger engine people on here but I really enjoy driving the car. The auto in sports mode is good.

No one has abused anyone with the entry level engines.. poked fun of now and then ;) but certainly not abused. This is a forum for all Z4's.

+1 on the M suspension delete. I have run 326s with and now without. Stock is firm enough for me and 15mm ride height difference is negligible from an aesthetics point of view. Stepping from 35is to 20i M sport was a big performance hit for me but I quickly realised that 95% of what I love about the car is not about raw power. Oh and I love changing gear manually again :)

DAB and Xenons are standard across range from MY13
Annoyingly hill hold assist is not on 20 and 28, which I miss on a manual with EPB.
Comfort pack = cruise, folding wings, wind break and additional lighting IIRC
I would also upgrade standard speakers.

Best of luck,

AP

Don't get me started on hill start assist! It was in the brochure when I ordered mine, then BMW decided it wasn't part of the car and tough s**t!

Worrying that your dealer doesn't know whats included on the car....guess that's there way of avoiding any comebacks from you saying "you told me it was included". Similar to going to the Sony Centre and asking if the 46" LCD has a 46" screen and being told they didn't know!

I went to 3 different dealers in Surrey area who knew jack all about the Z4 before ending up buying it from a dealer in Devon because he knew his stuff. That was until he tried to show us how to close the roof by putting the key in the driver door and realised that feature had been disabled.

Maniac - agree that "abuse" was too strong a word. "Lively debate" more appropriate!

Love all my options (see signature) and would not change any or not live without them.

Particularly good is the heated steering wheel. You skim over it in the brochure thinking it is silly, but it is soooooooooo good in the winter or with the roof down in the cold and compared to the cost of Nav etc, it is a pretty good way to spend £150. I would spend three times that on it. Love it!

Congratulations, only comment I would add is that if you like music at all then the upgrade stereo is an absolute must. Standard unit it 4 x 25 Watts through 6 speakers, maximum SPL is 87 dB, kerbside of a busy road is about 80 dB so cruising down the motorway at 70 mph with the top down is pretty useless.

I had got used to it and forgotten how bad it was until I got the Merc and I enjoy listening to music again

gotta get the m-sport i prefer the stiffness of the suspension and the rear bumper looks ace

Oh, forgot to say...... I deleted the MSport suspension too and am happy with my choice. I drove both back-to-back. As an everyday car (mine), it is not going anywhere near a track, you will not exceed it's handling capabilities on any public road, the ride height difference is negligible (and is actually helpful for me getting over the ridge in my drive, and the safety one-way speed bump thing at work, which my old Z4 always bottomed out on) and just makes things a little less rigid and more compliant.

And Sars is right - I would not want a lower quality hi-fi system. I went all out, which seemed sensible given there was about £300 difference I think between the full system and the middle one.

Heated steering wheel is still in my view the best value!

Thanks for all your advice, the order is now final.......white 2.0 Msport 8spd auto box with PDC front and rear , heated seats, heated steering wheel, de badged and deleted msport suspention.
roll on June :D

well done on getting the heated steering wheel. i thought i wouldnt use this much but on the cold mornings, its a god send. it warms up very quickly and keeps your hands nice and toasty. for me, it was definitely one of the best things i specced

For me

Defo options

Upgraded sound system - this gets a lot of compliments
Heated seats
Wind deflector

The extended lighting is amazing. Every part of the car lit up gentley at night.

I would leave the folding mirrors as you need to push the button.

If I could go back I would have specced heated steering wheel and parking sensors.

That just cracked me up... Push the button?
Just like the heated seats, steering wheel,doors,roof,engine.... Taking minimalist to a new level kieth :D
But on a serious note, heated steering wheel is a necessity,it is bargain buy, don't miss out

I didn't get too carried away with options as felt the M Sport package was generous anyways, was kinda pointless for me going for heated seats as I don't use the Zed during the winter, so glad now I didn't waste money on heated wheel lol :D Folding mirrors is a godsend when going in and out the garage, PDC would have been useful don't miss them really and prefer a cleaner bumper. Really wished I'd gone for electric seats as the manual adjustment is complete pants and a PITA when trying to get comfortable behind the wheel. Extended lighting waste of money IMHO. Would have liked the Dynamic suspension. 19" alloys would have been nice but glad I didn't spec them with cracking issues. Went for a clear wind deflector as I feel the OEM mesh type spoils the cars looks :)

Its easy to get carried away when speccing lol.

Tim.
