don't hide it away any longer , let it out here & now :D what was the worst car you spent your own money on & why ?
for me a H plate rover 820i fastback , build quality was woeful & lost almost all its £7k i paid ( it was 18months old :D ) within 2 years & when i went to trade it for a much older E30 the garage bloke said " sorry mate , i can,t give you anything for it " later sold it for £1500 (then 4yrs old) but it was a total heap of 5h1t !

A Triumph TR7. Mr Naive here bought what would have been a CAT C verging on CAT B these days. The fecking thing was a case study in what not to do when buying cars and what not to buy. Still I was 18 and this was nearly 30 years ago

VW Polo "country" edition. 1990 H reg, 33k on the clock when I bought it. Rust bucket, but had a special place in my heart, as I modded it. Lots. And lots

Beige Austin Allegro 1975 with a square steering wheel, the front wheel fell off on the way to college
  them austin rover b4st4rds ! i think a strimmer would have stretched their capacity for engineering

Triumph Dolomite sprint 16v "Executive sports saloon, the British rival to the BMW" eh-hurm, I'd beg to differ the feckin thing nearly bankrupted me as a teenager, everything from the gearbox, head, water pump, propshaft, brakes to wheel bearings and electrics were bespoke and failed at huge expense!

I suppose I have something to thank it for, it's how I learnt to spanner and read a Haynes manual doing most of the work myself

VW Beach Buggy :D

Could only start it by getting someone to hold the key in the start position whilst I hung under the rear of the car smacking the starter with a hammer

The heaters didn't work and the roof was far from air/water tight

It aqua planned in the wet so bad it was like driving a fcuking hover craft

The brakes were shocking!

But you know what, it was by far the worst car I've owned, but I loved it and still to this day find myself trawling Ebay for Beach Buggies (just they are way to expensive to put up with that s**t again :D )

It was my £90 winter runner whilst my 240Z was tucked away for winter, I replaced it with a hand painted Bedford van, which lasted until the March of that year before I scrapped it :D

I've never really owned a bad car in the sense that it was rubbish at doing what it is supposed to do.

The worst car financially was undoubtedly a Peugeot 205 GTi 1.9 bought for £8,500 and 18 months old (12k miles) and sold with 55k on the clock some two and a half years later for £2,500 (right at the peak of the joyriding and insurance premium perfect storm).

The car I enjoyed least was probably a Mercedes Sports Coupe C220 CDi company car. It wasn't bad but it was diesel and I HATE :headbang: diesel engines. Heavy, low revs, all the excitement delivered in one quick wallop before its time to change up again. It didn't handle very well either and I only had it as a company car because I had 9 points and needed something slower (and with cruise control) to keep me on the straight and narrow. Plus I was supposed to do factory collection but had to cancel it because Mercedes didn't meet their build date and I was too busy at work to rearrange another date. Oh and it took 9 months to come because it was "special build".

1982 VW Scirocco. Bought it from a car auction and the engine expired on the way home. Had it rebuilt, but it still ran like a dog. Brakes failed (twice), headlamps went dim when you switched the radio on.... leaked from the sunroof and tailgate...

In the end I swapped it with a more mechanically-minded mate for some stereo equipment. He fixed it up and kept it for 5 years. He sold it and then bought it back a few years later... it was his favourite car! :o

The most hateful car that I have ever had the misfortune to have to use was my ex's Metro... and absolute heap of sh1t. You could move the steering wheel a foot without the wheels turning. The seat collapsed once whilst she was driving at 60mph.

audi 100 cd 5 e auto-trans
wheelbearings, shocks, halfshafts, exhaustmanifold etc...
traded it in after 6 month of ownership in 1986 for a 2 year old honda prelude ex 5 speed man. which was 100% fault free

Citroen Visa 11RE, I had to suffer it for a year to get me to and from college. Truly awful.

£50 1.2L Vauxhall Nova SALOON! It was pea green! It didn't matter that I was 17 at the time, my mates used to call it Durex! For obvious reasons!

Vauxhall Astra VXR bought new in 2007.......fell in love with the looks ....... hated it with a vengence after driving it for a week....... during the 2 years of ownership I clocked up 2,500 miles....... yes it was THAT awefull

My first car, bought off my Great Uncle for £50, was a bright orange Austin Alegro. The only saving grace was it was a 1500cc twin SU carb model but with the skinny tyres and hideous suspension I'm not convinced that was actually a good thing.

Gosh the Nova saloon!! I'd banished that from my memory until now! :tumbleweed:

H-reg 1048cc Hilman Avenger-my first car at 17 bought for £25.00. Went mad fitting roll cage stripped all the interior out and painted it in Talbot rally colours. Looked great, drove like s**t :D
