Mobile Tyre Fitting E Tyres

Hi folks out of work at present thinking of buying a mobile tyre franchise called E Tyres. I was wondering if you good people would use a mobile tyre fitter if it was available in your area, and if so the reasons ,would it be price or convenience. I have done some research my self and the prices E tyres are quoting on the web site are cheaper generally than anyone else ,fully fitted. I have no work experience in this area, is it difficult to learn to change tyres and balance them? When I have watched them change my tyres it looks like its quite hard work? Any comments would be appreciated.

When I saw the chap take the rft's off it looked like very hard work indeed. How about seeing if you can get to talk to people already doing it? Or maybe there's a small business adviser locally who could fill you in on the pros and cons of franchising.

good luck.

I've contacted a mobile tyre fitter before and the guy was very helpful and seemed like he'd give great service. He couldn't get the tyres I needed though. I think a lot of mobile fitters struggle with 18" tyres and larger too, which are more and more common. That said, the last shop based place I used had great trouble with my 18"s and I'd never go back there as they just don't have the equipment to do larger tyres, despite looking like one of the larger/cleaner independants in Darlington. I'd prefer to use a mobile guy if they were capable, since it's no time taken out of my day if they come to the office car park.

I'd love to find a place that deals with the higher end of the market, like jeeper keeps mentioning he has in his area, but I don't think Darlo has enough of a high end market

I'd be wary of going to someone with no knowledge at all, but I suppose you have to start somewhere.

Hi Stu - I commend you for being brave enough to take on and set up a franchise opportunity. To many it's a great way of running their own business with the backing of a well known brand, etc. Tyre fitting to me looks simple if physical work and am sure having been int he tyre shop a few times could learn the machines in a few hours.

So would I use a mobile fitter - well frankly 'no' I can buy tyres I want on the internet and have them fitted at £40 per wheel inc valve, balancing, etc. and a mobile unit is always perhaps a bit less well equiped than a good shop. However there are many in the corporate world that as Herminator says would. Avoids time off, waiting, etc. To 90% of the population tyres are black things on the corners that are replaced when needed with OEM, the cheapest or what the fitter suggests.

That said the buddy of mine that runs the village shop also runs a huge fleet of mobile vans and fits most of the premium tyres in the NE of Birmingham area.

To me the success of this would be to identify who will be your customers, what is your competitive advantage in the area, how will you attract them, etc. Can you fit enough tyres in a month and every month to pay franchise costs, fuel and make a decent living?? Why not spend a day with an existing franchisee and see whathe does?

2 points.

1 - Don't start a business with no experience. Go work for free at a local non franchise fitter. You may hate the job.

2 - My only experience of a mobile fitter was a good one. I had a 328ci with 18's all round. Company was paying for the tires (£1000 for 4) but the service was excellent.

My thoughts on the business.

Most people still associate tire change as a 'go to' job. Stock is a massive issue. You might get a next day shipment of any tire and that may be your biggest customer base - the can I get them changed next week brigade. The other group is the I need a tire now. Single fitment post puncture.

With more and more runflats out there, the second group is growing.
Market trends - More people will be running there tires below the 1.6mm legal limit (in UK). Costly items will be researched more and internet is now used by all.

Check your proposed prices with Black Circles or spend time with other e-tyre franchise owners. Offer them 2 days free assistance.

And lastly, Good Luck.

I tend to use a local independent in Liverpool, and have done for 10 years.

If they've got a tyre in the warehouse then they'll usually price-match the online services, plus they only charge £7.50/tyre if I supply my own

I already use mobile fitters exclusively and have had great experiences with them. If the price is right, the convenience is an overwhelming advantage to me.

I also know of many people that use them as well.

Hi Stu,

I always use etyres, primarily because of the price/convenience factor but also because you can watch what they are doing closely. Never had any complaints. A bonus is that they do free puncture repairs on any tyres they fit

Off topic a bit but I had a very very bad experiance with e-tyres when they fitted mishaped tyres to my Volvo that caused serious vibrations above 50mph.

They refused point blank to refund and forced me into buying new tyres whilst they inspected the old ones. They claimed there was nothing wrong with the ones that had come off. Yet I contacted Bridgestone directly and they confirmed they were faulty and that they had issued a credit. Sounds very simple but the managing director of e-tyres is a twat and made it as painful as possible... we had to file a small claims case. Just before it went to cout they decided that they would refund but it caused so much stress and effort I could never ever recommend to anyone to do business with them.

Also, the jigs they use in the vans are not the same as the laser ones they use a static fitter... the mobile guys have to do it all by eye and struggle to get it perfect.

Some good advice but is the bit above a typo? £40 ?

I am sure he means £40 for all 4... £10 per corner seems to be the average rate (I find it varying from £7 to £14 in Derby)

I used a mobile fitter at work for a company car... he was very good.. but then then it was a Mondeo with 16's which i didnt care if they scratched the wheel (were already curbed by someone at work) But having seen the equipment in the van he certainly wasnt as well equipped as the place i got for my own car.... basically the van had a spinning disc for the wheel and he removed the tyre with something which looked like a crow bar :o

I used a mobile fitter from a reputable looking outfit and the balancing was so bad I had to get it done again, in my experience I cannot recommend it I think a static setup is better...so you won't be getting my vote sorry!

He has got very nice wheels though. :D

I will only use my local fitting centre as i had a bad experiance with a mobile company. After they fitted the tyres I felt they were not balanced and got them checked by my local fitter who re balanced them, following which the car felt much better.

I sent an e mail to the company that I used and they never bothered even responding to my e mail (which seems standard practice for so many compnies these days) I should have realy chased this up but in reality I couldn't be bothered to waste my time as I would probably just get more wound up by them :x

By using a local fitter youhave someone that you can easily go back to.

I've used event tyres and love them, great service, cheapest Michelin Super Sports at the time too and will use again as easier than going somewhere if i'm busy.

In short yes I would use a mobile service if planning on changing tyres.

I have never used etyres, but last year I used a mobile company called Grippy. They beat any other quote I had and came to change the tyres at my house at a convent time for me.

The guy who came and changed the tyres was excellent, he took tremendous care of my wheels and explained everything he was going to be doing etc. He even cleaned off all of the wax/grease stuff they use off of the alloys and tyres.

I have been using event mobile tyre fitters now for about 5 years. Much prefer them as their prices are good, they come to me and because they work on their own I find them to take better care of my wheels.

+1. I use kwikfit mobile for company car (and they recently did the best mobile fitted price on Pirellis for the wife's golf).

I've used Etyres a few times, pretty competitive and usually offering deals. I personally hate having to sit waiting in tyre shops, far more convenient when they come and change them at my house - never had any issues and free for 2+ tyres.
