Any one got one? Looking for a DSLR and this one popped up. Seems quite good and has good reviews.

Found one for £377 delivered, which comes with 14-42mm and 40-150mm Lens. Good price?

Anything else I should consider instead?

Cheers!

Not a bad looking camera with plenty of functions. One thing I would say is unlike a Canon or Nikon, the selection of additional lenses is limited due to no interchangability with older series models.

At this price range have you considered a Canon 1000D or Nikon D60?

There are some good deals around at the moment on the NIKON D5000. Great first DSLR.

I was reading the other day that Olympus were going to stop building entry level DSLR's because they said you can get the same results now from a digital compact camera, they have come on so much, so they are putting their efforts into those!

Hi, thanks for the responses.

CJ, I did have a look at the 450d, but that's a little over my budget.
I'm looking for something for around £300 to £350, but happy to push up to an absolute max of £400, if it comes with 2 lenses.
So that also puts the NIKON D60 and D5000 out the picture.

Had a look at the Cannon 1000D and found one with 18-55mm Lens for £318 delivered. What do you guys think?

Still wouldn't mind opinons on the Olympus if any one has one (or any of the older gens) though?

I used to own a NIKON D60. Great camera and a good introduction to DSLR photography.

I'd say think a bit "future proof". If, say, in 12 months time you want to upgrade and you have bought a few lenses for an Olympus, what will you upgrade too? If you buy from the market leaders NIKON or Cannon now all their lenses will still fit some great future upgrades from the same make right up to the £4,000 camera market!

I have a NIKON D90 now and I am still using 2 lenses I bought for the D60. May be looking at the new D7000 when it comes out. Not sure yet as I'm getting some great results from the D90 at the moment!

Breaker, Thanks, but I just can't go over my budget... my inital one was £300, but I soon realised this wasn't practical. I'm pretty sure two lenses will be enough for me, so won't be buyiong any more.

But if the lenses are all compatible then the Canon 1000D is a good start then and if I wish to upgrade in the future I can take the lens with me right? :?

Bar future proofing, which of the two cameras would you guys go for? The Olympus E-450 or the Canon 1000D?

Lenses interchangable by brand only but you get more choice with Nikon or Cannon.

Out of those two I'd go for Cannon. Or check the second hand market, say London Camera Exchange, Ebay.

peddy - I started with about £300-£400 in mind, but frankly by the time I finished I went for the lower number range (00's not 000's) for a much better camera, followed what the likes of breaker said about future proof and oh so glad I did. alos opted for one good stabilised lens (as I'm new to this) and get a second later if needed.

Did an import from HK and got it bundled with memory cards, bag, tripod, spare battery - well loads of stuff. Was worth the effort

If you can hold off for a while - wait till the Nikon D90 replacement comes out.
There's bound to be some good deals available as dealers try to shift old models.

Here's a good place to look for deals Camera Box.
