Fake noise

I have read that the E89 has fake engine noise pumped through the speakers some how, I definitely do not have this on my 28i , is this actually a thing , could this have been disabled?
Don’t get me wrong I am happy with the way it sounds it’s just something I was curious about?
Cheers

So all the E89s with N20 engines had a box called ASD fitted..it sits between the audio pre amp stages and the poweramp stage..the box sits on the rear bulkhead, boot side on the RHS. It injects fake brum brum sounds that you can't s/w disable..you can't simple remove it as the auido then stops full stop...a simple bypass harness is now available from several suppliers..simples!

It does also inject a fair degree of noise and distortion too....

Well we learn something everyday, who'd have thought it on what's an old ish car now. I'm glad my 35i doesn't have it , just a Milltek system instead 😊

I thought the BASE audio Stereo System had no ASD because the system lacks an external amplifier entirely (running speakers directly off the head unit, just the HiFi System (Option S676A) and the Top HiFi / Professional DSP System (Option S677A / S688A).

Looks like a loop back according to TIS fitted to all…certainly 676 for sure

Standard cats still on then it's the system which removes the secondary cats. This was on my car when I bought it 8 years ago and as far as I know Millteck no longer make it for the E89 ☹️
Yeah, it's looking that way. There doesn't seem much choice.
