Turn signal switch buttons not working

Has anyone experienced a BC or HBA (high beam assistant) buttons failure on newer BMWs?

My father's 2017 G30 has this problem for the 2nd time now. First time we replaced the whole switch unit with an used one. Now it died again.

I suspect the problem is in that thin cable that comes out of the stalk and connects to the centre assembly. To get access to that cable I should open the stalk at the back. I already tried but it won't open and I'm afraid to break it.
Does anyone know how to open the indicator stalk?

The newest part number: 61319436664 (already changed 4 times from 2017).

We have disassembled the stalk and inspected the problem. Turned out the brown cable was broken inside and was losing contact randomly.

This is how it looks taken apart, the cable is already repaired and all 3 cables taped together (not originally).

This is on my bucket list of things to check out on mine. Also a 2017 G30 (530i). I thought I was losing my mind lol read somewhere that it works for most people when the left turn signal is activated and sometimes the right, but rarely when neither is. Same symptoms on mine.

Any disassembly tips? Is it obvious once the steering wheel is off lol?

Disconnect battery, remove airbag, then steering wheel and then the stalks. I can't give precise instructions as I didn't do the work myself. But it's a quick job.

The stalk is clipped together, see the pictures.

Your 2017 has 2 batteries? Our 2017 530d has only one I believe.
I'd say you have to disconnect the main one.
