Hey everyone!

Looking for a toy, spotted an '05 Z4 3.0i manual in my area and thinking about taking a closer look. Listed as-is with 198000km, but seems to show well so potentially well-cared for.

Anything in particular to ask the current owner, or to look for if I take a trip to see it in person? So far my list includes: common oil leak locations, soft-top motor function, electric gremlins. I've heard this era of Z4 is pretty DIYer-friendly and I don't mind putting some work in, but would like to make an educated decision if things get serious.

Cheers,

Hi and welcome to the forum.

That guide is still a good starting point. Oil leaks often come from the cam-cover and oil filter housing gaskets as they get brittle with age, but the engines seem to be pretty bulletproof.

The bonus for DIYing on Z4s is the space in the engine bay. The same engine in a 3 Series has the back of it rammed up tight against the bulkhead.
