Front Speakers not functioning

2003 E85 3l: My rear speakers are working just fine, however, my front speakers, (left and right door) are not working. Before I go into contortions and pull the glove box and check fuses, I would like to know if the problem is in the amplifier box in the trunk in front of the battery. It appears to be dry and not water damaged. Since the radio and CD player and rear speakers work fine, I have ruled out the fuses. However, any advice of where I should start would be greatly appreciated.

The standard stereo doesn't have speakers in the doors, just dummy grilles. The only front speakers are in the footwells.

But if you have one of the upgraded options with an amplifier and 10 speakers then something is wrong somewhere. Check the spec for your car for options 676 or 677 for the upgraded systems.

That was my initial thought but the standard system doesn’t have the amp that the OP mentioned.

Nice to know the door speakers grills come empty of actual speakers. Was it made in China LOL? Thanks for info, I have some homework to do. Every time I enter my VIN in a decoder site to get info on the specific options, I get asked for money. Since It was a one owner car and I bought it from a dealer, I have only limited information on the car's options. if any. However there is a box in the trunk next to the battery that appears to be some sort of an amp Note photo attached). Needless to say, I need to do some more research on this subject and find someone in Northern California that's familar with old 2003 era Z4 sound systems. Thanks for the help. appreciated.

That amp is for the uprated stereo system. An easier way to check for you: do you have big speakers behind the the seats as well as the two smaller ones behind the headrests? That’s a 10 speaker set up. If you have storage shelves there then you have the poverty-spec system with no speakers in the doors.
However the amp pretty much says you have the fancy system in which case, yes I think it likely you have an issue with that amp.

Thanks for the reply. I do have speakers behind the seats, and they are functioning. However, when I adjust the fader I can't get sound for thwe front of the car. I've owned the car for 6 months and rarely use the radio, it's a canyon carver, not a boulevard car. I called a local shop here in the Sacramento area and they said they're familiar with the car, but likely just sales talk. I really don't want "Joe McGee" tearing into the car since the early Z's have primitive electrical wiring issues. But, it could be just an Amplifier issue and appreciate the forward information before I have to take it to a shop and take what thye say is the issue. Thanks for the help.
