Vanne roof, bit of a less fun post..

Hi guys…

So I opened the boot the other day, and tonight I’ve started looking at a few bits to do with the roof. The centre console roof buttons don’t light up, so I would have thought someone has messed with the wiring.. and lo and behold.. ofcourse they did..

Couple of not so nice pics..



I guess that’s step one, figuring out where those wires go, looks like someone just came and cut them..

Would someone mind taking a few similar pics of the back of their car, so I can kinda see where those wires are supposed to go? That would be a huge help.

I wonder if they cut it, as to ensure the roof wouldn’t open again while driving.. ?

Anyways, looks like I’ve got my work cut out for me, but iam sure it’s not completely rocket science.. I won’t be tackling the roof at all until I have passed the RTA check, which I’ll do next week, but I am sure looking into this is a good start.

Thanks appreciate it, though iam a rather visual person, so for me a few pics of the space underneather the boot carpet will go a long way.

i did nick this one from one of the posts here and its already shown me that the purple socket is supposed to be empty, thats bloody great. A picture a little but further out would be awesome..

All strange, did you buy as non operating roof.
Looks like someone trying to fix by cutting and some temporary connections.
Was the pump replaced?
Or did someone just give up on it.
Takes some doing getting your head around what's going on when we had no info.

I had someone ask about my car and buying one.
I said don't unless your into DIY fixes.

Wiring diagram of sensors i put together for my own benefit.
Might not be 100% correct, have seen some H3 with brown and yellow wires. Might be later model car.
After wires connected i would replace the 2 salmon relays, cheap from BMW, common part.
Next a good obd reader is as useful and wanted as much as good fuel.

Yep bought it with the roof not working, (among a bunch of other stuff not working) same as the boot, it’s been closed/locked for at least 5 years the bloke reckoned. I do like a puzzle, but I just wish I knew for a fact that they haven’t stuffed with it further than cutting the wires in the boot. Either way I guess things will clear up a bit when I start on the roof. I got to fix some other stuff first for rego/mot.

Just staring to gather some of the things I’ll possibly need for this part of the project, I am just wondering, the rear quarter windows, are they controlled by the roof module? As they are stuck in the up position, and I have no control over them, which hopefully will make sense as the roof module is disconnected.

So this is the power plug onto the Hydrolic pump.. some smarty pants just HAD to cut the fucking wires, instead of just taking one second and unplugging the bloody harness.. how dumb..

Now not knowing much about anything, but I gather that this is red for power, black for earth, and then we have a dilemma.. I’ll assume that the 2 purple wires are for the pump going fwd or backwards.. they are exactly the same color wires, so how to know which one to hook up to which one? 50 50 chance?

Would be really nice to know …

Is it possible to manually put the roof in a half open position then connect up the purple wires. It’ll soon be obvious if your 50:50 guess was correct or not.

Red - positive
Brown - negative
Violet - hydronic oil temperature, presumably it doesn’t matter which way they are connected.

The pump only runs in one direction, it’s the hydraulic valves that control the direction of the fluid and the movement of the roof.

Awesome, thank you... Oil temp eh.. Well it's bloody hot here atm lol..

So I plugged all that stuff in after connecting it up..



Zero..

Nada

So I gotta go further.. Nothing on the reader about the roof module
..

Right.. Need to dig further..

Plugged the new salmons in..

Nada.. Nothing..
Changed fuse 25 in the fuse box..

Nada..

Not even the green or red light light upon the push buttons... Which sends me to the controller...

OK need to.dig further... Man its getting soo hot outside..
Right inside now..

Pull a bit of the boot interior apart..



So bunch of cables not plugged into the roof module..

So, what happens when you plug them in?

I suspect it’s been unplugged because either, the pump was constantly running or the “bong of death” was constantly sounding.

Okay and now I have access to the roof moduale..
No bong of death..

Holy cows..

And this was stuck on the right hall sensor in the boot

To this round sensor here, which I think is a hall sensor correct?
Or does it need to be on there?

And the hydrolic motor isn't running, just red flashes on the down roof button.

Also the boot now closes properly , but the rear emblem doesn't open the boot. I have to jump it to open it .

lol okay I sorted the first question, that magnet thingy is supposed to be glued to the backside of the cover thingy that pulls down.. I guess the glue let go, I’ll glue it back..
