I’m having that issue I have read on here where the EPS error/warning pops up on screen and the steering goes heavy. Sometimes a restart clears it - sometimes it doesn’t. I looked up the code using BimmerLink and it showed interrupted PT-CAN. I drove about 500 miles with no issues then parked up at Gatwick for a week, when got back in the car the error seems to be here to stay. At one point the error multiplied into all sorts of issues to do with e-brake, DSC and others - I realised though that that coincided with my opening/ closing the roof. So as the battery is just under 5 years old - even though I’m not having any obvious battery issues - I installed a new battery and coded it in. The multiple errors have gone but the EPS issues remain.
Local BMW independent plugged in his reader and it showed a whole bunch of CAN bus communication errors - and at one point would not talk to the EPS ECU at all.
I think I’m going to remove the motor to send it to ECU Testing and have it reconditioned/ fixed.
The question is this: has anyone managed to remove the motor with the rack in situ to send it off for repair, or have you removed the entire rack before removing the motor?
There are multiple instances of people removing the motor in situ on YouTube and am trying to make up mind whether to do it myself or hand it to the independent specialist to remove, send-off and reinstall.
Any ideas anyone?
