Welcome to the forum from a serial Coupe owner in Surrey.

I think BMW offered 4 different blacks so they aren't rare. FWIW I would be a bit flexible with mileage as the N52 engines are pretty bulletproof and if you buy at 90K the value will soon take a bit of a hit as most UK buyers are scared of 6 figure mileages! I'd focus more on history and condition.

Anyway good luck finding the right one.

Hi, thank you for your reply. What do you think a good price would be for a car just over 100k miles? Been looking at a few but don’t really want to spend more than 8k as tax alone is £440. Appreciate any advice, thank you!

Prices have increased significantly since I sold my second 3.0Si in 2019, but like you I wouldn't want to pay over £8K for one with a 6 figure mileage - unless there was something really special about it.

This 129K miler was way cheaper and looked like a good buy (even if it isn't black) https://z4-forum.com/threads/2006-e86-coupe.157851/

Or this 89K black one that was advertised for a bit above £8K. https://z4-forum.com/threads/bwm-z4-coupe-e86-3-0-si-manual-2006-89-000-miles.158126/

They do come up from time to time so if you can be patient hopefully you'll find the right one.

Just sub 100k miles E86s seem to always be advertised at around the £9-10k mark.
Whether they sell for that is a different matter.

If you are happy with 90k miles, then I would look for one just over the 'magic' 100k when it wipes thousands off the perceived value.

Or you could make low offers on the ones which are higher priced. I have been called many rude names by deluded sellers over the years, but their cars never sold for the money they wanted. One chap told me he wouldn't sell his car to me if I was the last person on earth. I did chuckle when he reduced it by thousands a few months later. Obviously I didn't buy it! ;)

Hi yes thank you, had that exact thing happen to me today infact. Looking for around 7k for just over 100,000 miles, which I think should hold for the next few years fingers crossed. Am I correct in thinking they are pretty bulletproof and appreciating?

Thank you very much, great help really appreciate it

Definitely pretty bulletproof - there are two people on here running 200+K mile Coupes!

My 330i has the same engine and it is still performing brilliantly after just 130K miles.

Don't know about the 'appreciating' bit TBH. Certainly not with the miles you are contemplating.
Others will disagree but it's a cold hard fact that mileage affects car prices.....lots.

But if you want an 'appreciating' classic get an old Ford.
