After falling in love with a brown BMW 2002 touring when I was about 14 that was in a scrapyard (misplaced childhood/strange child clearly) I’d always wanted a 2002 touring

So here it is.

Golf yellow 1972 touring which will leave indelible marks on my driveway and a dint in the finances

Plus side is that it’s MOT and tax exempt, getting used to no power steering, keep fit windows and brakes that identify as ‘sometimes’ will take some time

I don’t think so- but it makes it pretty

Its running a high compression m10 (which means sod all really as the lawn mower in the shed has more power) but it’s got twin Weber 40s and sounds lovely

Alpinas had high compression 2 litre M10s. They offered them in several states of 'tune'. From 130bhp to 180bhp.

It looks like a genuine Alpina from the outside. I suppose it depends on how much it costs whether it's 'real' or not. I don't know whether they put 'numbered plaques' in cars back then.

Thought you got a second wife for a moment there.

Nothing nicer than the older cars though. I have 6 more years to wait before mine is tax and MOT exempt. Funny thought really that it suddenly doesn't matter anymore if the car has brakes (mine also doesn't have brakes to speak off nor power steering)

Ah that was a few years back

F me no PAS is better than the gym!!

But you don’t wear the front tyres out as the car has to move to turn the wheel 😁
I would hope everyone does that whether PAS or not. It puts terrible strain on steering parts turning wheels while stationary.

Have you ever watched someone make a 3 point turn
It is only those of us who have cars without power steering who are sympathetic to the wheels / tyres / etc
