Quick one - does opening the door whilst also opening the roof cause a known malfunction?

Went to drive to work this morning. Used my key fob to start the roof opening. In a slight rush, I opened the driver door about halfway through the rood cycle (roof portions mostly seated, boot lid still up).

Roof stopped immediately, and now wont open or close (it says roof obstruction). Roof down button continues flashing red even with car.off and locked.

Anyone have this before? I had a quick look around and saw no damaged wires anywhere. But then, I'm not entirely sure where all the wires are to check....

Be careful in that position the boot trunk will lower on to roof as hydraulic pressure bleeds off.
Might need to hold up whilst the roof drops into boot same time and reason.
I know my car takes a few attempts to get going if it inadvertently release the button.
I think i have opened door whilst operating roof, will try later.
 
Update- i turned off the car, got out and locked door, gave it a few mins. When I get back in the car, I get the tone-of-death with "roof system" warning, but if i try to continue opening roof, it moves a little further through.

I did this a few times and got it fully open.

Now, I'm trying to close the roof the same way, and its doing the same thing, works for a second and then stops on obstruction. Again, I can find no obstruction
 
My cars roof opens with doors open or being opened..
As above comment sounds like a wire break.
OBD reader and read codes next.

Okay, so just weird timing then with the door.

I've put a basic code reader on but it reads nothing. I guess i need a BMW-specific one.

The intermittent nature of it is weird. As in, if I leave it and then come back and try to open/close, it moves a bit then stops again. But then - if a wire is breaking, I suppose it would work a bit then stop again.

I'm trying to fully close the roof so I can drive it (and inspect battery compartment. So far not moving from the partially open position.
 
With a car I had experience of similar with I found that if you released the pump pressure by opening the valves you could move the roof into a 98% closed position

That then got past the wire break issue as the wires were connected again and the roof closed properly

Okay, where are the pump pressure valves? I'm assuming that pressure just keeps the roof panels in the position they are in while partially opened
 
Correct assumption

This is of course done at your risk!

There are two brass Allen key bolts on the pump, one for each circuit (main roof parts and the boot lid)

Only turn them 1/4 turn don’t over turn

....cant get to the pump because its in the batter compartment, completely blocked by the roof 🤦‍♂️
 
Update. Got it all closed without releasing the pressure. On one of the give-it-time and try again efforts, in pressing the close button I got the roof panel to go all the way up and nearly closed. Next attempt after turning the car on and off, it closed all the way through, no issues.

I'm just gonna keep the roof closed until I can get some codes read. I'm still wondering what happened here.....

Thanks everyone for the trouble shooting help. Feels like....maybe an intermittent wire break? Would the codes in the system tell me that?
