Hey all, I’ve noticed for years my 2003 z4 3.0i always has like a metallic clunk sound when setting off slowly in 1st gear. I noticed it does not happen if I bring the car RPM’s up like over 2000 rpm and let the clutch out a little faster. I have tried shaking the wheels when off the ground but don’t get any sort of noise. Any idea if it can be the springs on the flywheel? Or something to maybe do with the emergency brake? Both have not been replaced at all. Definitely sounds like it’s coming more from the rear of the car or middle. Also to add I’ve lifted the rear put the car in gear with the wheels spinning in the air and got no noise.

Sounds like the clunk caused by dried out spline grease between the prop shaft and the diff input shaft.
Have a google or ChatGPT it. It’s a fairly common complaint and a relatively cheap fix if the symptoms match yours 👍🏻
