I'm brand spankin new here. This is my 4th Z4 and i'm trying to fix the premium/hifi carver amp issue. My car is an early production of 03/03. I found a used premium/hifi amp that's a factory part# but doesn't say Carver. Does anyone here know a way to check compatibility before i buy it? Thanks in advance the part# of the replacement radio i found is 65. 126974231 My vin# is 4USBT33493LR63721
 
According to RealOEM.com, which is the “go to” resource for checking BMW part numbers, there are many different interchangeable part numbers for the top hi-fi amp. The part number you quoted is one of them, so you should be OK.

It doesn’t help that the Top hi-fi system is variously referred to as “Carver”, “DSP” etc. they are all manufactured by Lear if I remember correctly.

The part label on my oem amp does say Carver which is where the confusion started
 
Welcome, i hope you get the amp sorted. Let’s see some pictures of your Zed/Zee.
Is that also your AMG pictured??🙂

FYI the replacement part DID NOT work. so add that to the database :) The replacement part didn't have an optical input.
 
The latest Z4 is a base 2.5. I've had 2 Z4 M Roadsters and one 3.0 6 speed. In my humble opinion, this 2.5 with the 5 speed is the most enjoyable. It's always in the power band
 
Making headway, i think. So i found a replacement amp and the stereo was working fine, for an hour, then sound shut off. I noticed when the engine is off, and the radio is on, it plays perfectly. As soon as i start the car the radio volume is limited and all accessarie
stop working. Any insight would be helpful.
