rear tyre sizes

My E89 23i scraped through its MOT but needs two new rear tyres. My garage man asked if I had been drifting it as "bits were missing from the tyres". That is not at all my style of driving.

It's the first time to consider tyres since I bought it 3000 miles ago. Currently Goodyear Eagle F1 non-run-flats all round - but I see that front and rear are both 225/45/17. The online tyre shops seem to recommend 255s on the rear.

Should I be aiming for 255 replacements, and Pirelli rather than more Goodyears?

E89s mostly has staggered wheels but some 17" were square..really really bad news to fit a 255 on a rim design for 225..

GY Assy 6 Conti SC7 Michelin MP4S MP5S Pirelli P Zero all great tyres..doubt you would notice much difference IMHO

I just had a look at the photo you posted when you bought your E89 and it has Style 290 wheels which are a "square" set, so 8J x 17 rims all round. Tyres should be 225s all round.
