Help needed E89 Roof issue

Hi everyone,

I’m currently having trouble with the roof on my BMW E89 Z4. The roof gets stuck about halfway through the opening procedure, and the hydraulic pump stops as soon as the front locks at the windscreen are released.

There are no fault codes stored in the roof module. While I am holding the roof switch, the system doesn’t appear to detect any errors. It’s only when I press the switch again after it has stopped that I get a “Roof Not Locked” message, which I believe is simply because the roof sequence has been interrupted and not completed.

The roof will close and return to its original position without any issues. The problem occurs when the tailgate opens and the rear window/roof section is supposed to lift and fold into the storage compartment. At that point, everything stops.

I’ve already checked for fault codes and there are none present.

Any advice or guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Drop me a pm I have experience on the e89 roof issues and am in Lincoln

Other roof experts are available but limited on the e89- you have the eponymous z shed in St Helens and a few south of the m25 (cayman autos) spring to mind

Have you replaced the usual issue areas? Hall sensors/microswitches and relays?

I have checked all the readings from live data they are absolutely fine. To me it seems like the pressure on the hydraulic doesn’t get to realest for some reason

Check connector on the right boot ram of the Hall switches, especially the rear one.
Connector can pull apart.
Pump runs but the ram reaches full travel but Hall signal not reaching the ctm.
Connector H3.
I made this diagram from info. i could find.
H2 and H3 might be named wrong way round looking at it.
