Fifth Gear Z4 vs 350Z

I've never owned a Japanese car, but I was always under the impression that they were super reliable.
I've been educated

Japanese engines are generally reliable, but Japanese cars love to rust.

The 350z seems to be quite engine dependent. I had an early one and never had any mechanical problems in the 4 years I had it, loved that car.

Only got rid because it was a daily driver at the time, and 27mpg with super unleaded was quite pricey.

Would happily have one again as a weekend car, if I could find one that hasn't been ruined through modifications, or rusted away.

I've had my 370Z Roadster for over 7 years now, and strangely it actually feels more torquey than the V8 M3 I had. It is quite a lazy engine though, especially when you consider that it revs to 7500rpm as well. 20210908_112644.jpg

Some interesting observations on here.

When I started thinking about getting my first E86 I was also considering a 350Z, but after my first test drive in an E86 I knew that what was I wanted - it sounds like I didn't miss anything not trying a 350Z!
I test drove a brand new 350Z Roadster back in 2006 and I liked it to be honest, and that sowed the seed for me to get a Nissan Z car of some description eventually as well.

I used to swear by Nissan reliability and build quality. They were rock solid cars, until the join up with renault. The renault engines are not reliable. the one in our Almera was the reason I stopped buying Nissan family cars, after so many good ones and moved to Mazda. The mazda's have mostly had ford workhorses under the bonnet.
