Anti-roll bar linkage ball joint dust cover?

Changed over both front drop links this morning, surprise, a nice easy little job. Thank goodness. :thumbsup: However I can't see anything wrong with the old ones, this is what it says on the MOT "dust cover severely deteriorated offside front upper" it 'aint, is this another place to avoid? I'm running out of garages near to go to:headbang:
 
Neighbour of mine took his car to a Halfords in town and, due to replacing the wrong arm, failed the retest. For the next full test he took it to a Halfords about 20 miles away. Came away with a different set of fails and, interestingly, a completely different list of advisories.

I recently did a tie-rod end on a friend's car that had been an advisory for a couple of years. Nothing wrong with the old one.

I think they actually just have a special Ministry dart board in the office that they use if they haven't had enough fails or advisories that might cause the department to pay them a visit.

Don't talk to me about Halfords. Took my transit to my local one a few years ago and despite passing fine without any advisories for the past few years, it had loads. Should have gone somewhere else as they were really dodgy. They "replaced" the rear wheel bearings that needed doing again the following year, replaced the brakes one side but not the other. Tell your neighbour to choose anyone but not Halfords. Mike.
 
I often wonder if they look at previous years MOT's on Google for advisories and add a few more to it. Mike.

I probably laughed in his face. Couldn't think of anyone worse to go to. Friend had her Fiesta destroyed by a Halfords years ago. Went in for something coolant-y and they diagnosed head gasket. So they did it. Twice. And it still wasn't right. Car got either chopped in quickly or written off.
 
The council here MOTs their own vehicles and do them for the general public, I might give them a go next year.

Yeah do that Mikey. You pay your council tax to employ them, then they charge you extra for an MOT. Good business model there. But they will still increase your council tax next year cos they can't afford anything.
 
Since changing the drop links the suspension definitely seems quieter and I had a closer look at the old ones today, one of them has a rip near the joint.

If they didn't have the income from doing MOT's the council tax rise would be even higher.
