What have you done to your E89 today

Decided it was time to do a smidge more maintenance on the N52, having noticed oil seeping into the eccentric shaft sensor connector. When this happens, it generally means the sensor will be failing, as engine oil has migrated inside the sensor.

Unfortunately this sensor lives under the valve cover, which means removing it and all the top end obstructions to get it it. All gaskets were replaced as part of the VANOS recall in 2024, so itโ€™s a little annoying to have to change them all. I decided to go for a new Mahle cover with gaskets and bolts, in the event something breaks. The date stamp on the existing cover is 2012, so I guess a refresh is no bad thing!

My x Mercedes SLC's cabin cover doesn't fit too bad on the Z. I could do some
tweeks but will leave it as is for now

After the disaster that befell me..ie my 326M spare wheel does not fit over my Shelby Mustang 350R Brembo 6 pot front caliper..(so even though its not very strong the barrel (Inside) is very thick and despite being 19" doesn't allow bigger brakes to fit that other 19" wheels cope with!

Spare wheel E89 Part Deux Genuine 437M front 19x 9J..Cheapo Chinese tyre 235/35 19.. only used once..rim in very good condition!IMG_1502.jpgIMG_1503.jpgIMG_1504.jpgIMG_1786.JPG

Bit of a polish prior to departure to Iberia..wheel and new tyre look acceptable..

I removed this today from under the front of the car as it has split. Apparently itโ€™s a โ€œfront spoilerโ€ Does anyone know its purpose? I was planning on replacing it but at ยฃ99 ๐Ÿ˜ณ Iโ€™m going to attempt a repair.

ITs an aerodynamic dam to force air going under the car lower and not get caught up in the various bits like exhaust pipes / diff etc..together with the two in front of the front wheels and the two at the bacm wheels its a pretty standard part of early 2000 s aerodynamic tricks.. the more air the smoother the air under the car the better the downforce..cars like E89 tend to want to take off at high speed!

After taking some time away to sort through some family death/Big "C" diagnoses, I realized I'm only a week away from my big drive up to Campbeltown from Bristol for Springbank Whisky School....so time to get ready!

First, this past weekend I bought all these supplies that I've been meaning to get, to take care of my Z4 properly!

This was the 2nd Gummi delivery. The first was dumped on our driveway behind the gate while we were out (Amazon claimed it was in the postbox). On arriving home, we didnt see it on opening the gate and promptly drove over the package, spewing gummi everywhere. Thanks Amazon.

Never having really clay-barred, polished, waxed or ceramically protected a car before, this promises to be a fun learning curve.

Then I looked at the Bristol Weather....and saw that its rain/showers pretty much from Sunday through to my departure for Campbeltown this coming Saturday. Expletive.

So, without really having conditions to properly clean/clay/protect the body before the big drive, I'm gonna focus on what I can do.

Today, I replaced that bumper badge that had fallen/disappeared back in Ruislip. I ended up buying a new OEM one from the Victoria, BC BMW dealer when I returned to Canada last month after Opa's passing. Turned out cheaper than here in the UK, after a well-negotiated military discount.

Got the old one off, pretty dirty underneath so I gave it a good shampoo/cleaning before getting the new one on.

Now she looks proper again!

These tapping nuts on the underside do seem a bit flimsy to me. Hopefully I did it properly. I'll keep on an eye on the housing to see if it backs off at all - feels tight/no movement at present.

Next job - put the car up on a Zedshed lift on Thursday to check the undercarriage!

Flimsy? Remember, you are talking about securing a badge, not the entire bonnet! ;)
And you a Rams/Jaguars fan? If so - oh dear.... (said as a Vikings fan so I know only disappointment) ๐Ÿ˜‹

So....it doesn't have a torque rating? Man....

I am not a support of either team. I'm a firm GB Packers fan for over 30 years. I was gifted tickets to last season's Wembley hilarity so I bought a souvenir program at the game. Stafford and co dismantled the Jags, but it was a good atmosphere all the same.
