E89 Roof Issue - NO ERROR CODES!!!!

If your start point was the roll of tape on the windscreen work back from there

If it’s a mechanical issue then look for deformation in the arms that hold/move the top shell- it’s difficult as adjustment in that area is by moving the shell once the retaining bolts are removed- but that’s more in the horizontal plain as opposed to the vertical

If it’s linked to an electrical or sensor problem then I’d surmise it’s that deformation causing sensors to not go full travel

But if it were me I’d be looking at the initial cause and effect

I lubed the roof some 10 years ago plus, never a problem. Still put greases on the latch points.
Had all 3 pairs of wires to roof fail, now all have new wires spliced in.
The last left wire broke about 3 inches from Hall sensor, so not necessarily on bends, in fact non on my car.
Had the right boot ram Hall short lead plug socket pull out, as my previous comment.
Boot micros seem manufacture fault, pics of lose resistors inside. Had no problem my 2009 car.

This is really helpful, thanks

Interestingly I’ve done a functional check on the roof in ISTA to check hall sensor and microswitches.

Shell 2 microswitches showed as working fine. But at no point did the hall sensor show an ‘energised’ state

I tried manually placing a magnet on and around the hall sensor on the ram and again it didn’t register an energised state

The wiring would appear fine, it’s speaking to the CTM and not displaying any errors so where do I go next???? Try a new hall sensor maybe?????

Thanks nonetheless….appreciate the ideas!

Well if not all the sensors are working then you need to fix them first..they are there for a reason..

TBH, this idea is not correct.

The sensors in our E89 already contain a permanent magnet, that triggers the hallsensor placed into it. If a metal passes by, the magnet field will be disturbed. The metal to be recognized is the piston of a hydraulic ram.

Just supposing, that at the very outset of these problems I’d refreshed the wiring to the hall sensor……..and just supposing that maybe, potentially I might have got the polarity of the wires wrong……..and completely pit that possibility out of my (tiny) mind

Surely that wouldn’t have caused any issue would it?????

Oh! Would you look at that!!!

……I’m a complete Moron

Thank you to everyone who took the time to respond with advice. It is much appreciated

Yes, the rear window is clearly misaligned, but before you assume something is bent, how about releasing the hydraulic pressure? It may well realign when the hydraulic pressure is released. Simple things first.
