Given the trouncing of the Labour Party in the Welsh elections will our new leaders revoke the 20mph limit that Labour introduced?
Lets hope the newbies also actually build the M4 Relief Road around Newport that we have been crying out for.

Hi Colb - big day for PC and Ref. I thought the relief road had mostly been shelved as they couldn't build it over the Gwent Levels?

I seem to remember they sorted that hurdle it was only Drakeford that stopped it.

The end of 20 mph limits, nah. I think they are mostly a good thing. The end of the blanket 20mph limit in Wales. Now that would be good.

Haven't most of the 20 limits been revised, 20 in town centre and 30 on the outskirts

Some of the places where they've imposed these 20 mph limits are just plain stupid.
(IMHO)

Not at all, there are numerous stretches of 20 in unbuiltup areas still. The lip service to revising the limits has been to push the limit a little closer than previously, sometimes by as little as 10m. The next village to me has approx 1 1/2 miles of 20 with no developments directly adjacent to the road at any point. Now the dozy council are introducing traffic light controlled ‘Dutch’ roundabouts on major trunk roads with speed limits reduced from 60 to 20 for 400 (years) yards on all approaches. And their response to getting the boot is to blame Starmer!

Don’t get me going….

Think PC/Lab coalition will keep and harden the rule.

Actually I will probably have to type everything in Welsh firstly before posting in the future.

We can only hope for this ridiculous speed limit to be axed. Very dangerous unless next to a school.

The trouble with rules & regs, especially those driven by pressure groups, is that they never rescind anything. Speed limits only ever go down and, no matter what they are, some loony will still want them lower. Usually because they don't understand that sometimes sh*t happens: "Oh no, an accident on a 20mph road. It's obviously too fast, make it 10."

In the same vein, and you can throw the alcohol/driving limits in with this, they don't understand that it's irrelevant what the law is when the only remaining problems they're trying to stop are the people hitting the scenery at Mach 2 with a bottle of scotch in them.

It becomes counter productive in the end, hence people with 30 years of clean licenses who bimble to the shops happily, start collecting points as if there's a set of crystal tumblers at the end of it. When they start insisting everyone has cameras watching that the driver doesn't salivate at the thought of a Twix, let alone actually eating one, we'll all have 300 points and insurance through the roof. And still for no benefit as the people who think two insurance claims a year is perfectly normal won't realise they were the target.

I go to the land of the dragon regularly and some of the 20s are on roads so wide that the nearest accident is 15 seconds away.

Back to wherever I started; it's like VED, trailer towing licensing[1], van speed limits[2], they tinker with things making it eternally worse and utterly incomprehensible without having a clear out and tidy up. So the limits will probably stay.

[1] They didn't half botch those

[2] Modern vans still seem to be viewed through the 1956 lens of something with a 1t payload being a lorry that needed Popeye at the controls.

A little bird told me that there will be an end to the 20mph speed limit, but every Category A or B licence holder will have to resit an 'L' test to see if they can control their vehicle at a blistering 30MPH. ;)

20mph limits have just started being rolled out around where I stay.
What's wrong with educating people to stay off the roads and look where you are going while crossing like they used to.
I was down a few streets today and the satnav said it was a 20mph road but I never saw any signs. Are you meant to guess what the limit is?

They just walk out in the road now because of the new laws and the idiots think the cars will avoid them, what they don't realise is everyone is looking at their speedometers to keep to 20 mph.:headbang:
