Interior Rearview Mirror Auto Dimming Retrofit

Hi people,

Ive looked around the forum a bit but cannot find a final conclusion
regarding the auto dimming retrofit. I have a manual mirror which is
loose and Im considering putting a new one with auto dimming.
The car has a rain sensor but nothing else and Im wondering if the
auto dimming mirror without compass and garage door opener will
require wire work and coding or could it be plug and play?

And would this be the correct part when searching for a second
hand unit: 51169302884

Can the coding be done via Bimmercode or Protools and if so
is there a tutorial on how to do it?
 
Protools I belive, but I've not used that.
No tutorial that I'm aware of for the E89 specifically, but there might be for the E9* 3-Series as they are the same mirrors and coding.

if I manage to complete the whole project.
 
Well it seems I don't have a rain sensor after all.

I foolishly assumed that the center button on my wiper stalk is auto mode,
as it was on my E81 but it seems it has a different function. Also when I took apart the
trim behind the interior mirror there was nothing else besides the humidity sensor and
the harness.

Suppose that the wiring in my trim is not enough to support the auto dimming
mirror I bought without new wiring as it seems the coding with Protools did not yield results.
