Hello guys,
I am Luc, and I own a E89 3.0 for 6 months.
And, I had already an issue with my roof: A696 code, cables to microswitch spoiled.
I got a lot of information in your forum, and it is time to thank you all for all the sharings that help a lot!
And I will do my best to help also!
See you,
Luc.

Hi and welcome to the forum Luc.

Good luck solving your roof issues, and feel free to post a photo or two of your Z4!

A696 code, cables to microswitch spoiled.
Salut Luc,

This fault code is regarding the hall sensor on the right ram in the trunc: "Hall sensor, open circuit, closing movement, rear-end module"

It has to be replaced by a new, expensive E89 one or much cheaper, E88 one.

Best is, to get both replaced on the right ram, as the one with the yellow wire died due to corrosion inside of it's housing.

The 2nd one with the red wire is in danger as well and much more critical. If corroded, the roof package may crash into the locked trunk frame.

=>⌛ Prepare E88 hall sensors for E89 use
Keep care on the zip ties. Replace it as exact as possible as before. The one on the middle of the ram is important!

PS
We'll meet you on our Tour de Grandes Alpes and back on Tour Napoleon in June.

Hi Robbi,
Thank you for the feedback. I had already found the issue: thanks to the discussions in the forum, I have located the sensor, and found nude cables connected to the sensor. I have repaired the cable. My problem is that this ram has a small move, front-rear when the cover is moving, and this movement crushes the wires, and possibly the hydraulic lines, when back. I try to find a solution by myself, but do you have some advices on this point?
PS: I will send a photo, as soon as my roof will be out of maintenance mode!

It's not a problem, it's a feature.

... and this movement crushes the wires, and possibly the hydraulic lines, when back.
Maybe the complete coupling unit has been mounted in a wrong way. All wires and hoses have to be freely directed in a bow to the backlight cluster.

This is the correct routing of the wires and hoses:

Yes, my problem is the wires crush. The mounting was modified, and thank to your photo, I will try do the same.
Every detail is important, when you want the roof to work for long!

Maybe somebody has taken off the coupling unit and remounted it with a 360° turn. Then all wires and hoses turn into the wrong direction.

Mark around the 3 nuts with a white edding, take the unit off, turn it 360° et voilà, everything will be fine.

Hello,

I have just removed some plastic ties (additionnal), and the wire constraint has changed, moving to the inside of the trunk.
Nothing crushed at the back of the ram now.
Thanks Robbi, your photo helped!
