M40i Quad Exhaust Tips ?

Number5

Elite
 Bristol M4/M5
Has anyone just managed to replace/modify the standard box exhaust to Quad pipes without changing the rear muffler box?

I’m not too interested in the sound at this stage, more the aesthetics and have ‘exhausted’ google searches for a simple fit solution without significantly butchering the existing system and possibly voiding the BMW warranty whilst spending thousands of £ in the process

If youve managed it, what tips did you use and where did you source them, etc ?

This is the look I’m after

I hope they’re titanium and carbon fibre tips. Perhaps lined with gold inside?

I have a mate who is a stainless steel welder/fabricator. I sent him the picture above and asked how much it would cost to make, just out of interest.
He said he could make it for around £200. And he said his welds would be neater! :)

Interesting. Where is he based ?

Wisbech, Cambs. He won't make you one. He doesn't 'do' car stuff. Believe me, I've asked many times.
He makes a handsome living from making very expensive stuff for hospital operating theatres.

Even if he would entertain the idea, you would need to buy a three grand one for him to use as a template.

Maybe ACS will have a fire sale?

There is of course the Remus standard or race variant and Motech do some lovely gloss black tips for them. If it wouldn’t cause issues with my extended warranty, I’d be tempted to get a Remus, but also I have a boot spoiler on my Z4 and roof spoiler on another car, plus some PPF on both, all declared as modifications. Worried adding a non-OEM exhaust might cause more problems getting cover in the U.K.

I have the ACS back box on mine with carbon tips. Declared on my insurance and it didn’t increase as not a performance mod. The car also has a service pack on it and BMW have never complained. It won’t invalidate your warranty.

If you had a fault the worse you’d have to was put it back to standard to see if the fault remained or not.

Any downsides, eg drone at motorway speeds?

No droning at motorway speeds. I’d describe it as 10% louder in all three driving modes. It’s not intrusive at all. The Remus alternative is a lot louder and wasn’t for me. The ACS system is OEM+. Build quality is a lot better as well.

Finally Managed to get this done today pretty cheaply with black chrome tips. Just modified the tips with no other changes to the back box or valves necessary . Much better than looking into the open dirty, rusty OEM boxes.

Done by Infinity Exhausts near M4, J18 Bath .
