E86 - heated mirror glass

Hi all,

Hoping this is right place to ask? Had the glass from 1 of the heated mirrors delaminate and drop off today, have been scouring the usual places for a replacement but having no luck.

All the 1s I’ve seen have a different fitment backing plate, mines the 1 with the lock ring part number 7112583.

Does anyone know if the ones with the different back plate will still fit? Or failing that, where I could get a matching replacement without having to go down the main dealer route as prices seem a little silly!

I’ve attached a picture of mine for reference.

Thanks in advance for any help!

I had this issue last year, most of the ones available with the heating element seemed to be for the pre facelift but the later style has a small clip that you slide/rotate to unlock.

If your membrane/backing is still in good shape I would just replace the glass with one that sticks on-cleaning it thoroughly before.

It’s worth noting that the original glass is clear or possibly lightly tinted from what I remember reading, but a lot of the replacement stuff is blue. That’s fine if you like it, but you’d probably want to replace both sides.

I bought mine from ‘The wing mirror company’ on eBay, untinted, wide angle area and with adhesive backing already applied. So far so good.

I got a plain (non-blind spot - isn't needed when the boot is 2' behind you!) glass from Halfords and it stuck straight in on top of the membrane. Cheap, job done. Still there four years later.

Was thinking about doing this as there’s glass only options around. What did you use for an adhesive? Thanks for your help.

I think it must have been self-adhesive. I did it in the carpark there and then as I picked it up before a day out.

Did this with ours eighteen months ago and it's still there. Keep meaning to pick up spares for both sides when they're back in stock
