Can the steering wheel buttons circled in the picture in the post be used for something?

Something that's sort of been bugging me for a while. The volume and next/previous buttons on the steering wheel work just fine with radio/aux, but the two circled buttons in the photo do absolutely nothing. I don't even know if my car ever was handsfree phone prepped, and I assume that's what they're for. But is there any way to use one of them as a mute button for instance? Either via recoding, or something hardware wise? Anything else fancy I can do with them?

Well the quick answer would be RTFM!

Anyway I just did. The left one is to accept or end a phone call, start dialling for selected phone numbers. Pressing for longer switches voice input on or off. I seem to remember using it on a car without Bluetooth and it mutes the stereo.

The other one is to allow you to show/hide the telephone directory.

I'm sure someone like AnubisZed could get them to do all sorts of other things!

Yup, know what they're supposed to do, but with no phone prep they don't do anything in my case. Hence the question.
Tried pressing the left one longer as you mentioned, but still nothing. But thanks, confirms my 'research' so far :)

I experimented with an android head unit a little while ago and I'm pretty sure i was able to program those 2 buttons to do a selection of things with the stereo like start satnav or switch to mp3 player etc.
