2005 Z4 E85 2.0l - Roof not completing cycle.

Hi all, I wonder if anyone could offer some advise. I have recently replaced the roof motor on my BMW Z4 after it had inevitably failed. In my three months of ownership it has been in manual for two of them. At this stage the windows lower, the roof unlatches, seemingly opens all the way - however once fully down the motor keeps going when pressing the button, the windows don’t raise and a flashing red light stays on. Inversely the cycle closes as expected, with the windows lowering and going back up all okay. I have checked the parcel shelf is in the lowered position, and equally as this has just been relocated so microswitch alignment should be okay. If I look closely it can look like the right hand side of the hood sits deeper than the left when all the way down, however this is marginal. The only other behaviour I’ve noticed is that the roof scrapes the headrests when closing, which suggests to me that maybe the hood rises from the wrong position when it has been opened all the way. Myself and my mechanic are currently out of ideas so any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

Your "Down" sensor on the passenger side hinge will have become dislodge and is floating loose, I suspect, so the Roof ECU is not getting the command to tell the motor to stop and the windows start.

Drop the roof, then Look down on the hinge and you will see a 1cm square block. Thats the "Up" sensor. Below that to the outside of the car, is a similar looking 1cm block which is the down sensor. When the roof is down, the small metal tongue on the roof frame, covers and activates the sensor, so the next stage can commence. Glue it back in position.
