Trolly Jacks again

On an Msport suspension car will a low profile jack go far enough under the car to get to the centre rear jacking point or would i have to get it onto my two inch ramps first?
If i have to use the ramps there seems little point in me getting a low profile jack and I'll just keep on using my ordinary one and my ramps!

I just fancied a new jack that's all :-)

Yes, it will. On my M I used that for the front and rear to get the car off the ground with the jack stands on the side where the jack normally goes.

Which jack are you guys using? I was thinking of this one:

Just used my SGS one under the rear of an E86, with a 2 inch block of wood between it and the diff. Easy fit.

Mine is identical to this....

But it's branded Draper.

I've got a very similar one Darich, it wont go under my car, at least under the cill jacking points, I've not tried it under the diff to be fair.

I have an aversion to SGS, while they have a very good rep I did buy one of the low profile jacks which leaked oil all over the drive and whilst it lifted okay most of the time it wouldn't never come back down so got stuck under the car!. Their tech people were helpful but none of their suggestions cured the problem. They insisted on me sending in videos of me trying all their ideas such as bleeding it and adding new oil etc. I got fed up and chucked it in the skip.....

Not sure I'd risk another one of their products.

You've actually got me doubting myself now and if it does actually go under.

I've had my car up a few times - fitting a back box and to swap my alloys over to 19s.
I'm positive I used my trolley jack to swap the alloys but I guess it doesn't really matter since yours doesn't fit.
I can double check if you really need to know though.

I have this one for the Z3 and Z4

It might depend on which suspension your car has - mine is Msport so its 15mm ish lower than standard.

That is the cheapest I have seen, ever :o

That’s the one I had that ended up in the skip! I think
I paid about that for it as well.

I have the Halfords Advanced, I think the same one axelvalleau linked to. I can’t rate it highly enough - very solidly built, low entry, high lift. It will get to the rear lifting point easily (M-sport height), although the front centre still needs the front wheels driven up onto planks. The reason I got it is it goes higher than most. Bloody heavy though, I wouldn’t dream of lifting it up.

I agree. Really solid sturdy jack that Halfords one, I have great faith in it. I lift mine around often, bloody gurt mass that one!

I have other smaller alloy style jacks and I'd be less confident using that on a Z4, had them nearly topple a few times.

I've had that one for over 5 years and had no issues with it, although I generally only use it twice a year to swap between winters and summers on my 330i.

I decided to give SGS another chance and I've ordered this one:

Looks a good choice, next level up from mine and the bonus is its alloy so far lighter which makes positioning easier. If I was in the market for one I think it would be my choice as well.

They make great door adjusters as well, I use the Jack more for lifting the wooden doors up and adjust the hinges than on the car
