Bought a boat at last....!!

Had a few Speedboats,John,Fletcher's and the like, but got a couple of mates who are Bosun's/Yard Managers at local Marina's,and been around a few different boats over the years.
Nice looking Bayliner.
I always liked them, despite some people not (got the nickname by some as Binliners). But they are actually good boats.
Enjoy.

What's in it,V8 Mercruiaer 5ltr engine or what?
What size and year is it John, around 23/26ft late noughties, early tens?

 Yeah they used to call them ‘binliners’ in the 80’s 90’s as apparently if you shone a torch on the hull you could see it from inside.... :P

It’s 24ft, 2017 year Craig with a 4.5 lit 250hp V6 Mercruiser sterndrive with trim tabs. I didn’t want a V8 as the fuel costs are silly enough as it is without the thirst of a V8. It’ll knock on the door of 40 knots flat out so plenty for what I want. It’s an entry level boat for sure, there are much much better boats of this class but you’re paying money I can’t live with for them. The beauty of the 742 is you can get 8 people on, it has a flushing loo with holding tank, not just a porta potty, transom shower, fridge, alcohol stove, decent cabin size, lots of storage for ski’s etc, easily towed with Claire’s Evoque, an all round good boat that isn’t silly money. I’ve looked at so many over the last few years but the 742 just clicks with me and does all I want in a nice package for sensible costs.

no good when I’m 70 and can’t get in the bloody thing right....?
I am nearly 73 and would easily get into that. :D In fact try keeping me out if I got the chance. Looks fantastic, have fun.

 None intended BeeEmm.....

Been wanting a boat again for years, so happy this turned up.

Stunning. She's a beauty. Love the name too
Too bad about the Porsche though :(

Cheers Scoot....

The name will changed, it’s too OTT for me tbh...! Yeah the Porsche thing is a shame but this is an itch that I’ve had for years that must be scratched. These particular boats are not easy to come by in such good nick with the options it has, I couldn’t pass it up.

Yeah, looks nice, and as said, thirsty enough with fuel costs if V6,lol.
A mate had a Bayliner, similar size, years ago,new at the time, and been around a few larger Princesses, etc over the years, which are something else in the bigger boats.

Thus should give you alot if fun though John.
Nice one

Congratulations, looks rather nice

The dive club I use has their boat in Sutton harbour in Plymouth and I've seen the berthing fees for it  Pretty sure there will be cheaper ones with how many we have in Plymouth. Will have to keep an eye out for yours

Lucky lucky man living down there Von...I’m a fair shade of green....

Sutton looks pretty swish I must say, and as you can only get fees by enquiry it tells a tale...! Obvs nothing is cheap but so far I had my mind set on Mayflower Marina, go left at Drakes Island towards the Tamar, but you probably know that... Mayflower doesn’t have a tidal lock which is important to me as well. Looks a very nice marina but I’m always open to local knowledge. BuzyG told me about a place halfway up the Tamar which I visited last year for a scout out when we were in Cornwall but it’s not really suitable for what I want and when I asked about security the guy said if I had an outboard I wouldn’t leave it attached... :o Its a quiet backwater for sailing boats really. The other thing with Mayflower is its gated and you also get a one car parking place with your berth fee, so no need to think of you’re going to find a place to park in summer.

I am rather lucky  Moved here 10 years ago from the southeast and no way I would go back, or anywhere else.

I know the marina you mean but didn't know the name. Sounds like a good setup especially with the parking which can be a right pig for Sutton. The lock can be painful as well as sometimes it's a 40 minute wait, can be hours when the firework shows are on

It does look nice John but someone once told me that there are two good days when owning a boat ...
The day you get the keys and the day you get rid of them. Everything else in between is expensive and hassle !

That reminds me of some advice someone once gave me.

They said if it flies, floats or f***s, rent it!

Love the look of that John. So many great places to head for a few days fun from Plymouth. Have you got a mooring sorted?

That’s it Alan, look on the bright side....

It’s the same old crap that folk say with roadsters being hairdressers cars, they’ve never had one. If you go into boat ownership thinking you can ‘just’ by a boat and nothing else then yes, it’s going to end in lots and lots of tears, and so many do it blindfold. However, know the mooring fees, fuel costs per 1000 engine revs per hour of the engine you’re getting, how many people you’ll be carrying, trailer cost, towing vehicle and fuel, lines, fenders, navi kit, flares, life vests, communication kit, fuel for getting to the boat, winter servicing and anti fouling, winter storage, accommodation costs if not sleeping on board, get all that researched then buy or forget it. I did....and I bought, and not being cocky by any means but I know down to a few quid what I’m getting into.

I meant to PM you actually. I went over to Weir quay last summer when I was in Cornwall for a recce after you told me about it. It’s not really ideal for what I wanted tbh, it’s more a sleepy backwater for sailing vessels. I spoke to a guy who works there about security, he said it’s not that boats get nicked as such, but if I’m bringing an outboard boat along don't leave the engine attached...! Anyhoo I’ve settled on Mayflower Marina just in from Plymouth sound. You get a gated marina with a car parking space for the berth number so it’s ideal for just turning up and away you go out to Devon or Cornwall. It’s also non tidal locked so access to the sea is anytime which is ideal for what I want. But I do appreciate the nod to Weir quay, it’s all interesting.

Unless you have the class one power boat, you sold your Princess 45 for, parked up in a garage in the Barbican and a massive storm hits washes it off the ramp into the water and destroy s those two Lamborghini engines.

(Yes that one is true. Freind of my dad. I spent many happy hours on the 45 as a young kid. )

Your going to love it John. 8)

That"s a great marina John. Some propper big, by UK standards, yaughts tie up there. 8) Pre Covid I used to walk past it two or three times a week and sit and eat my lunch sat on the wall high up on Mount wise looking straight down on the marina. :D
