Best Headlight Bulbs/HID Kits

Hi everyone, I'm needing to upgrade my headlight bulbs as they are absolutely rubbish at night. I have the aftermarket 'angel eye' projector headlights with standard halogen bulbs at the moment. I was either thinking of a good HID kit (but these are a bit dated now and have the hassle of wiring ballast packs) or some good LED bulbs. Does anyone have any good recommendations?

I believe the bulbs are H7? Can someone confirm this...

I'm currently thinking of something like this:

or without the cooling fans:

If anyone has these fitted to their car, please feel free to post them here. I believe NovSight and NightEye are the same company.

Cheers!

I’ve just fitted the novasight led H7, without the fan. Very bright and way better than the standard h7 halogen.

Is the beam pattern as good as they claim. I've always found with previous forays into LED headlights that they are very bright but with rubbish beam pattern and have a very short throw. ie. bright infront of the car but no distance vision at all.

It's better than OEM Xenons, which I'm quite bitter about. Specially after spending £80 on new D2S bulbs that are seemingly amazing and still feel disappointed.

What made you for for the ones without the fan over the ones with?

IIRC it is a space issue in the headlight unit; the bulbs with fans on the back don't allow you to put the back-plate back on the housing, whereas there is no issues with the fanless bulbs. Can't find the thread right now, but there was someone one here who fitted them and they haven't had any thermal issues.

Any particular reason for going fanless? Do you know if the ones with the fan will fit ok in the headlights? I'm asking because I see different colour temps but some only come with a fan or without fan, doesn't have an option to choose. I'm currently looking at some now but they only come with the fan...

Doesn't the Z4 take H7 bulbs instead of D2S. And isn't a HID kit different from Xenons?

If I decide to go with the Novsights, is it just plug and play or will I require anything else to make them fit?

Yup..plug and play.

I’ve got Xenons, but the inner high beam and flash to pass is H7... so replaced with LED.

Thanks buddy!

The fan-less ones actually seem larger than the ones with the fan. I'll just wait until someone here can confirm if they will fit.

Cheers!

My first Z4 (E85) had halogens (H7), so I installed an LED kit which improved the looks and light output considerably. Then I moved on to an E86 which has OEM Xenons (HID would be the same... High intensity discharge xenon bulbs), which felt considerably worse than the LED kit I had been using in the E85.

I tried many easy fixes for the OEM xenon to make it better, such as removing the projectors and cleaning them, cleaning the inside or the headlight housing, eventually getting the best bulbs... I was never satisfied with the beam pattern and light output so I've just spent a couple of hundres getting Morimo Mini D2S projectors and I'm finally satisfied with my headlights. They're amazing.

I've got this kit to fit to my car today! As I too found stock setup to be utterly useless.

Do you gotta take wheels off to fit do we think??

Did you get the adaptor plates?

It should be doable without removing the wheel, but jacking the car so the suspension droops will give you a lot more room to work with without the hassle of removing the wheel.

What adaptor plates? :D

I still haven't gotten around to fitting these yet. And cars going in for some warranty work shortly too... Nice bit of clunking going on!
