New brakes life expectancy.

So the dealer finally fitted my new rear brakes....discs and pads.

They did the fronts about a month ago.

All paid for by the crappy dealer I bought it from.

Before they did it, the fronts said 33k miles and the rears 27k miles.

If says the same now! So I guess they didnt reset anything.

What should new pads (on new disks) estimate?

How long is a piece of string?!

Do you do 2000 miles a year, or 25,000 miles a year?
Do you drive a lot on motorways or around town?
Do you do any track days?
Do you drive hard on country roads?
Is your car AUTO or Manual?
What engine is in your car?
What is your general braking habits? such as late braking, heavy braking or gentle, slow braking?

These are all things that need to be answered before we could give you any answers on how long pads should (could) last..
 
No, I don’t mean how long “will” they actualy last, I mean what should the figure be when new?

i.e change the oil and reset the counter, the date it gives for next oil change is 2 years.

Change brake pads and reset counter, what should its default starting figure be? Obviously the actual life will vary, but surely it has a starting point?

Its a 2011 20i e89 with standard 18” wheels (dont know the number).
 
I'm just working on my brakes now. (Just having a break).
I have some aftermarket slotted and drilled discs, changed at 53k, the pads have lasted 25k with 1800 left, so just replacing.
Think on standard pads i was getting similar mileage, as this is the third set of rears since i bought the car. Changed at purchase around 30k, then 53k, now 78k.
So i think a good plan is new disc on second set of pads. The old discs had quite a lip.
Just tried to fit a front sensor on the rear pads. They aren't long enough to fit. If it will reset when i get to 400 to go, then i shall not bother fitting to pad.
So might have to order one.
From memory my rears reset to 28k, so BMW seem to have it sussed.
Also they don't go down like say a odometer, it will jump down without you noticing to some lower value.
I think front pads would be good for more than 50k. Only replaced once and still had plenty on.

Iv'e just changed my discs and pads all round on my E89, reset using Carly.

The service indicators have reset and are, fronts have reset to 50000 mile while the rears have reset to 37000

Hi, I think the reset is only possible if the red warning hasn’t triggered-after this happens you need a new sensor lead :thumbsup: .
