Norfolk - good roads?

Hey peeps,

I'm thinking about taking a few days off this coming/ next week (Fri 30th Sep to 27th Oct). Not 100% set but would like to get away.

I'm based in Kent but looking for places to go. I just had a look at a 10 day forecast and most of Cornwall/ wales/ peak district/ lake district/ yorkshire look a little rainy over those days (SO FAR). So I see that Norfolk seems to be pretty good weather during that time.

Just wondering what the roads are like? I normally go for hills/ mountains and river/ streams/ lakes. So in other works i like hilly rather than more flat. However I haven't seen a lot of the UK, so just want to explore it with the zed.

So would you guys recommend? Or should I go another time of year/ think of something else.

Can't currently go abroad as the wifes visa wont permit currently :(

All thoughts welcome!

Hard to say, but one thing for sure is you won't find hilly in Norfolk!

Apart from the main routes the roads are usually fairly quiet and there are some nice places to visit, especially on the Norfolk Broads although they are better explored by boat!

If you can live with flat you could always try it - you won't know if you like it unless you do!

Hope you do manage a trip somewhere anyway!

Hey Mr tidy. Thanks for feedback.

I normally look on Google maps terrain view when looking for places to drive. Hence why Norfolk has been a little lower on my places to visit.
However I live in Kent where it isn't the hilliest of places, but still some really nice B/ A roads.

My main issue is weather. I want to have the hood down so I would prefer to do that than hood up but not nice weather :S

I'll keep an eye on the weather though as it could shift mid next week!

The North Norfolk coastline is really good, nice windy roads with gentle hills. The scenery is great and there are some lovely places to see like Holt, Sheringham and Cromer

+1 on the Norfolk coastal roads

Just using street view now. Looking pretty good!

Every now and then i drive around ramsgate, broadstairs and the likes. Really nice just following the coast isnt it

As sort of a Norfolk boy (hopefully not Normal For Norfolk), I can recommend the North Norfolk coast, very pleasant and scenic. It gets a bit hilly near Cromer. Norwich is a nice city, lots of churches and pubs. As has been mentioned, the Norfolk Broads are good, but better seen by boat. The west of the county borders the Fens, which are very flat. It is a big county, and relatively sparsely populated. Lots of WW2 Bomber bases, some of which have little museums if that is of interest. A lot of roads in the country are pretty narrow and the locals are usually doing 80 because nothing ever comes the other way and they haven't seen a policeman since about 1985.
Regards

Hahaha :D sounds good to me!

I spend a fair amount of time in Norfolk as we have a holiday home there on the Broads. We like the coast road and often walk on the beaches at Winterton, Mundesley, Happisburgh, Cromer, Sheringham etc, plus there are some great inland villages around the Broads such as Holt, Horning, Coltishall etc.

The northern end of Norfolk is good also, try to visit Wells, Burnham Market, Old Hunstanton, and Blakeney.

Hey guys

Sorry for late reply.

Norfolk was really nice actually! As mentioned by other team members, it's all about northern part of Norfolk. Also as mentioned, just follow the coastal roads and stop off at each town/ village for an ice cream or two! Bring walking boots if you can so you can check out the local walks ;)

Overall very nice trip indeed!

I like your planning technique. We did something similar in 2015. Changed our plans and booked the next hotel each day on the fly. We ended up visiting the Lakes, Dales, North Wales and the Breckon Beacons, just following the good weather. Turns out it's can be a great way to plan or not plan a holiday. :D Alas I know noubt about Norfolk, other than they build Lotus's there.

Lotus really!?! Crazy. Wish i had known so i could visit their main dealer.

Peak/ lake / dales are my next goal but may break them up as there is a lot to see!

Fyi always use Airbnb. We had a whole flat with kitchen/ bathroom for £25 a night + car park space ;)
