Z4M Warranty renewal up

What are everyone's thoughts on renewing after a year of a AUC car? I got it a year ago, it's just had inspection II (nothing required to be altered) and a fresh MOT at BMW Oxford, with no advisories. 61k on the clock and I've not had an issue in my ownership.

Even the basic warranty with £250 excess is £982. Goes all the way up to £3086 for everything and £0 excess.

Its a NO from me , slip the £1k into a envelope under the bed & treat the car well
Then do the same next year

I think it depends what some peace of mind is worth to you. I had a Z3MR as an AUC and I extended it 2 years running at a grand a year. The first year I almost broken even but the second year I had no claims however for the peace of mind I didn't regret spending the money. Still being under BMW warranty also made the car more saleable too. It is a personal choice IMO but it worked for me

Have to agree with Mr. Wilkes. This October I'm 5 years in. Repairs have cost me £100 for new battery and ignition switch which I sorted myself. So I'm about £5k in the black.

I have only done about 10k in those 5 years though.

As a 25k a year daily, and paying £80/month for £0 excess, fully comp warranty, it was a no brainer for me.

I had mine on the monthly payment plan (so it never went up) until 100,000 miles, where the coverage dropped significantly.

Over the 4 years I had AUC and Mondial warranty, I definitely got my money's worth as I had a new engine at 23k and a new diff at 70k (total over £14k). I've also had little bits like wheel bearing, body control module, PDC sensors, wiper relay, etc.

Since letting the policy lapse, I've not had anything major in the last 50,000 miles (well, nothing that wasn't caused by the accident in Dec-15), and the only 'big' spend I had was for a clutch & flywheel at 140,000 miles (about £2k at a specialist).

Opposing view to the rest in here. Mine is a sub 20k mile car and I have had £10k out of the warranty over three years so had my money back three fold. Its all about luck and your risk appetite.

What has gone wrong with such a low-miler?

Personal choice and all dependent on your own risk appetite. Warranty is a money making business with the odds in their favour therefore most of the time most people are better off without it, otherwise they would continue to hike prices until it becomes a viable profit making business. Therefore I'd rather save the money, if your worried fix the major problems (bottom end, vans etc) so you can sleep a little better.

EDC/ABS total pack up. Nav total pack up. Electric seat pack up. 2x leaks and diff problem. All done no quibble on £0 excess. For me a no-brainer.

I've had about £12k worth of warranty work done, but to be honest not even sure it was strictly necessary, but if they were willing to do it for free then I was going to take it.

At £3k a year you'd have to be bonkers to buy it. If the very worst happened (let's say engine problems) you could break a Z4M and recover a fair chunk of what you'd have pay for it....

When people say £XXk of warranty work you need to remember that 1. Dealership prices which are majorly inflated compared to an indy 2.likely some unnecessary work there 3. Your not getting the view of most other people who havent had many problems.

Some great points.

I have had a lot of M cars with a warranty (Z4M, CSL, 1M) and currently a c63 on a mondial warranty.
Conversely I also have an e36 m3 and a z3m not on warranty.

It all boils down to whether you can stomach the potential costs of repairs, the chance of it happening, the peace of mind and the age of the car.

When I did have the AUC running on my old cars it was because I continued it from buying them through the AUC scheme and was also at a point in my life where I didn't mind taking the car in for what someone called 'unnecessary work' that generates £x warranty claims and only work that a enthusiast would want done and maybe to get 'value' from the warranty! One particular incident related to my m3 CSL when the vanos needed to be replaced, they also identified rtabs, cracked rear Spring etc. Without the warranty, even without bmw's inflated prices, it would have been an expensive mistake!

On my current cars, BMW would never warranty them or even recognise them so it's specialist all the way!

I'm. With WMS from Haddenham just down the road
http://www.wmsgroupuk.com/motor-trade-warranties/car-warranty/
It's £330 approx a year
No excess
Unlimited £2k per claim.
And it's including the charge to have works at main dealer.
Paid out on my power steering pipe that leaked and that was £600!
Heartily recommend them

I believe there may be a best of both worlds here...

My car came from an Indie dealership, who gave a 3 month warranty with the car. This warranty some feel was not worth the paper it was written on... but I disagree as long as you are in no doubts as to what it covers. It explicitly states it covers the faulty item only. As an example;

Rear spring broken two months into ownership. BMW/local Indie quote and advise replacing both. Total cost, £300. Warranty company covers £125 of this (spring and half an hour labour), but not the rubber mountings (not at fault), other spring or other half hour of labour to fit 2x springs.

The warranty was free, or £200 to increase to a 1 year warranty (which I did not take up). The cost would have been around £300 for the year.

Looks like they only cover cars up to 10 years old. Think this is the case with most warranties.

Hey hutch
They take cars upon individual basis
If loved and looked after they will warranty
It's the job blow cars they won't take on
Give them a call if interested I've been to offices in person and all lovely.

I've been with them since had car and carried it on and simply upped it to main dealer prices also
And the full £2k limit for not alot of money
Give them a call of looking yourself

As I gave a call saying bmw said my pipe had a leak they asked how much
I paid handed them the receipt and had cheque through door for full amount in 3 days
No excess that I'm aware of
Shall check paperwork once home

5years+ 40k miles in my owner ship and she has cost me £300 for a new radiator fan, fingers crossed and stick the money under the bed. The banks will be charging to too much soon to put it there. :?

Had mine nearly 5 years now with no warranty, will keep it that way.

Had to replace the window regulator at the weekend, but cost under £20 and a few hours of my time. If I was no good with scanners might be a different story.
