Welsh road trip help please

So a friend and I are planning a road trip in early Sept around Wales.

We usually go up to Scotland and around some of the lesser known roads on BMW GS bikes but last year I sold my bike and bought a Z4 as my friend also had one and we did a 3 day trip around the same area but having done the journey several times I mentioned going somewhere else this year and came up with Wales.

We will be travelling down from Newcastle Upon Tyne, hopefully keeping off the motorways as much as possible and are looking to enjoy a bit of a spirited drive around some decent roads in Wales.

So I am looking for some advice on this please chaps - 2 fold i guess, firstly a nice round road trip covering about 3 days and secondly some cheap-ish hotels/B&B with a pub that serves food nearby.

Thanks for any help in advance

Done the bike thing in Wales numerous times and the roads IMO are as good as anywhere is Europe. I appreciate this time you'll be on 4 wheels, but the roads are still exceptional. TBH around the area we usually stay in you'd be pushed to find roads that are not enjoyable.

Liverpool House in Rhayader is the B&B we use and although not been there for about 3 years, it's always been clean, comfortable, with helpful owners and a good brekkie. There's a couple of pubs very nearby for decent evening food.

The A470. 483 and 44 are all very good to drive.

Moving on to North Wales, there's many many more exception driving roads.

Can't really help you with specifics as only driven the Z in south wales once when I picked up my hardtop up, but even just following the satnav there were some really nice roads so I'm sure you'll have a great time

+1 for the horseshoe path. Down into Llangollen then down the A5 along to the evo triangle. The roads around snowdon, Bethesda and llanberis are great driving roads too. A bit further on the roads around the llyn peninsular around Nefyn, abersoch and aberdarron take some beating.

Look up the horse shoe pass nice drive and a few twisty bits
Greg.
But avoid on a Sunday unless you want to meet up with a couple of hundred bikers and loads of cyclists!

This was our 3 day trip earlier this year, but we came up from the South. Day 2 should be of particular interest to you and the footnote mentions the 'must do' roads.

Good luck, they are fantastic roads and stunning scenery. Enjoy.

The roads on day 2 will take some beating.I was brought up in a village which is close to the Horseshoe pass called Llanarmon yn Ial.The pub in the village called the RAVEN is community run, earlier this year Prince Charles and Camila were pulling pints there. You can check it out on Trip advisor if you are for accommodation .

I just did a roadtrip last weekend around south wales. Visited a few waterfalls and caves. Coming from London the roads are amazing smooth and fun to drive there, not that many traffic lights and mainly roundabouts.

Hi Guys

Many thanks for all the replies, seems like we may have made the correct decision heading off to Wales - keep them coming

Worth looking at going from the north / mid Wales down through the Heads of the Valleys past Merthyr Tydfill towards Saundersfoot and Pembrokeshire on the south coast then round to Fishguard etc, taking in the rural coast and inland roads round there, some stunning coastline in that area, September time will be tourist free by then.

Have a great trip, I doubt very much you'll be disappointed with a tour around Wales.

Suggest the road / hill climb to Bala is a Top Gear classic route along with the A494 & A497 in the north.

In the South there's the A4069 which is a little used classic over the Brecons... has some great twisties & progressive parts, though won't forgive if you're over enthusiastic. Make sure you visit Rhossili beach if you make it to the Gower, is one of the most breath taking beaches of all time... when you see for the first time will understand

A must do road is the Evo Triangle.
On the right day can get some spirited driving in
