Today I have replaced the gearbox and diferential oils. My car is a 6 speed manual 30iSDrive with 63k miles. The tech said that the differential oil's colour was ok but the gear box's was quite dark already.
The difference is so noticeable: less noisy operation and the gear changes are much...
Thanks for the reply. I had seen that on eBay and for a while I was considering it as an option. However, I enjoyed learning how to do it by myself. Now that I know how it's done, if I need to do it again I'll be able to do it much quicker and for much less, since I have all the tools and...
My car came with two key fobs. The one I have always been using and a spare one, which looked brand new (it had the BMW stamp at the back). With it, once I gained access to the car with the good keyfob, I could start the car but could not lock/unlock it.
Owners of E89's with comfort access can...
In the end I bought the oil and it's actually SP spec, not SN+. I might have either misread or read the wrong oil 's specs, as I had many tabs opened in my browser at the same time while doing the research.
Luckily I also got a Bluelight discount so I got 7 LTRs for £70 which is not too bad, I...
Thanks for the reply. Indeed, both my user manual and oil filler cap have a reference to Castrol oils. It's a shame that the user manual's references to fluids are either non-existent or very vague, compared to other car brands.
I think that I'll get it tomorrow. The car has done around 4k+...
As per the post's subject. Has anyone tried this oil (Edge 5w30 M)?
BMW Longlife-04, ACEA C3, API SN PLUS.
I have never used Castrol before. I have almost always used Shell Helix Ultra in most of the cars I have had but it's on offer now at Halfords and cheaper than at Autodoc and eBay.
My car...
If we're talking about the same person, I believe he's an admin in the Facebook East Anglia BMW Z4 Owners Group, of which I am a member. I have only chatted with him once, very briefly, regarding a question about E89 roofs. He seems very friendly so certainly worth a message/call inthe future...
BMW LC-87 coolant is the (correct) one they've now used on mine.
It's really annoying that in any other car I have had, I could find the coolant and other fluids' specs in the user's manual but nothing in the Z4's manual. Hope this post has helped you.
I received confirmation this morning that they used the BMW's OEM coolant: LT Coolant 87 G84 spec. BMW part Number 83515A6CDD7
Well, it seems that now it's all good...
But I have been left thinking that had I been a person with 0% knowledge of cars (most people) and with a black coolant...
I think exactly the same! I did not want to mix coolants inadvertently and reduce the corrosion-inhibiting properties of the coolant. I don't skimp on anything related to car maintenance and always use either OEM or with OEM specs.
You told me in a previous post what the correct coolant spec...
In the end they flushed it again and they replaced the coolant. They assured me that it was G48 but I am getting paranoid paranoid and am thinking that they could have put G11, which is also blue... Is there any way of telling? Does it matter if I mix G11 with G48?
At least the slimy residue...
Thanks for the info. I'm going to get the oil filter tool.
I am just waiting to do a few more miles with the existing oil, which has only 3k miles on it. Around mid-July I am aiming to do the oil change, air and polen filters.
