Yes, looks like a "Tax Disc Holder Mobile Handsfree CarKit Antenna Aerial"....as the kit is no longer with the car I'll ask the wife to follow the procedure outlined by lux.Thanks for all your help and advice.

As tax discs are no longer needed I decided to try and remove the disc holder on my 2007 Z4. I've discovered that there is a thin black cable (appearing from the end of the dashboard by the side of the window ) which is attached to the holder. Does anyone know what is the purpose of this cable...
