I’m new to this Forum but am a keen Z4 owner.
2006 to 2010 - E85 2.5l
2010 to 2015 - E89 3.0l
2015 to 2026 - E89 2.0l 4cyl - 28i M Sport
I have owned the latter since brand new.

I’ve enjoyed great reliability throughout which has included at least one annual tour around Europe every year since 2006.

The only glitch has been our current 28i when it which suffered a hairline crack around a bolt on the plastic rocker cover. Oil seeped out and dripped onto the exhaust manifold causing worrying blue smoke to be emitted from the rear of the car. Friends following me thought it was coming from the exhaust and a blown turbo was diagnosed by a BMW technician. Sadly it was returned from Belgium on a low loader for repair at home. A disappointing start to a road trip. I hitched up with friends for the next 10 days!

I am still enjoying annual road trips with this under-rated car on an annual basis.
Over the twenty years, my friends always brought along an eclectic bunch of sports cars which have included, 911’s, Lambos, Lotuses, Boxters, Caterhams, Beemers even MX 5s.
Even alongside these ‘petrolhead-preferred beauties’ I believe my Z4s have always delivered for me in every way. They are fun and very capable on the twisties, comfortable on long autobahn schleps, and have the advantage of open top fresh air driving at the touch of a button.
I was apprehensive about switching to this 4 cylinder 2.0l turbo after my two 6 cylinder cars, but my fears were unfounded. While it may not have the silky smoothness of the 6, it still makes a lovely noise when extended and is in fact very smooth due to balancer shaft technology; it is quiet when you need it to be when touring.
The performance is fantastic, turbo-lag being almost eliminated by virtue of the twin vane turbo, and once the turbo cuts in it produces a very satisfying linear urge that will keep you right up with the best of them! I Iove this engine!
By the way, it’s manual, obviously!

Enough for now
